We were deposited by our tour bus opposite Ryubo Department Store and allowed two hours free time, just enough to browse some of the shops on either side of the street before heading into Ryubo. At 1.6km in length and with a plethora of shops, restaurants, department stores, shopping malls and other attractions located there, its a shopaholics delight. My wife reckoned that she could spend at least a couple of days, ok with me if left to sample the restaurants.

This is the main tourist street where all the souvenir shops are located. However, you will see many empty storefronts.

According to the locals, the street hasn't recovered completely since COVID however there is an obvious infusion of mainland chains and franchises setting shop here.

You come here to purchase cheap souvenirs and try the trendy ice cream. It connects to the two main shopping arcades in Naha.

While it is a must-visit once, you are not missing much if you do not get here either.

Kokusai Street can be called the center of Naha tourism. There were shops that catered to tourists lined up on both sides of the street, giving the impression that it was always busy with people enjoying Okinawa and Naha.
This is my first trip to Okinawa in several years. Maybe it was because the last time was before the coronavirus pandemic, and this time it was after the pandemic, or maybe it was because it was the off-season for travel, but it felt a little lackluster or deserted.

People have finally returned, but there are very few Japanese people.
New stores have opened and replaced their old ones.
There are more chain stores, but the independent stores are still closing...
Even though there are fewer restaurants, they seem to be surviving by attracting customers, and the staff seem to be going out and attracting tourists rather than providing service.

The things that were different from what I imagined from watching it on TV were:
1. It's a pretty long street
2. It's a convenient area with not only souvenir shops, but also restaurants, hotels, convenience stores, etc.
3. There are also restaurants to choose from, such as steakhouses, Okinawan cuisine, and Korean cuisine
4. It's open until quite late at night

That's all for today's recommended place!

Easily to come here by Yui rail. We came here several time for shopping and food. It is a famous attraction in Naha city. So packed and crowded during night time.
Visited on June 2019.

It is just a very long street crowded with mostly tourist. Since we were tourists, we joined the fun and strolled along under a cool weather, stepping in to some interesting shops, cafes and salted ice-cream shops. At some point we ventured away from the main street to discover more shops and better restaurants in the back lanes.

Good last resort place for souvenir shopping and food as there are tons of shops and restaurants/izakaya. It is definitely a busy street. If you don't like a touristy place, then avoid this street. Many restaurants offer Okinawan food and habushu (snake sake).

The busiest part of town, I suppose, with all kinds of shops and restaurants. It's fun walking down from one end to the other especially on a Sunday when they blocked off traffic and making this into a pedestrians only area. Do try the snacks along the street. Absolutely enjoyed the hot cheese cake on a cold day. We did not do too much shopping other than a few boxes of cookies on this 4th trip to Naha.

For a first timer, it is quite exciting to be introduced to Okinawa by walking down International street. It is interesting to observe the smart uniforms of the various different groups of students on field trips from different parts of Japan. One can't help bumping into many of these student groups along the street. On Sunday from 12noon to 6pm, this street is closed to traffic
