I came here only because it was close to the cave. This huge park should have a higher rating. There are many lookouts and walking trails. It’s quite hilly so a bit challenging as a cyclist. However, the views from up top are impressive.

Now it's the firefly season in Ishigaki. You can visit the firefly path in Banna park in the evening and see the wonderful firefly dance along the path.

You don't have to spend money to join those firefly tour. Just go to Banna park and look for the sign of "Firefly path".

Ps. The fireflies are shy and please don't point your flashlight to them.

We read in some magazine there is a kids playground area in Banna Park and the pictures looked pretty good so we decided venture out. After driving around inside the park a bit (it's on a hill/mountain), we found the playground. The kids were like "Wow!". Even I had to admit it was an impressive sight. Most memorable was the long slide (on rollers), which takes almost a minute to get from beginning to end. The kids stayed there for well over an hour and the wife and I took the opportunity to take in the view as the playground is on mountain. Definitely worth the 15 minute drive from the city center.

Banna park is a very well spread out park offering beautiful island views, hiking opportunities, play area for kids, insect Museum and nature walks. If you dont have time to hike you can drive till the top for the views. The park has various entry points so do visit the information Centre if you feel lost.

I didn’t have much time to explore it as I wished but definitely worth the visit. If you don’t like walking, just take a map at the visitor center and drive to the observatories in the park.

A little bit difficult to locate the fireflies road. And the road driving there was one way so be careful. We saw quite a number of fireflies even in rainy days. Recommended.

My six year old son had so much fun at this park! It had just the right amount of fun/risk taking/skill for my active son. It is only in Japan that you will see super long metal 'roller' type slides and large concrete slides with lots of climbing involved! We went at around 6pm and it was nice and cool and the slides were not hot to touch. Best to bring mosquito spray though!

Just 12 minutes drive from the main port town. There are multiple entrances which link up to the free parking and walking areas and attractions. The maps can be a little confusing but it adds to the fun. If you can navigate Ikea you can cope with the route maps.Magnificent views of the island from the hill top observatories, and a great place to watch birds by the lake as well as some pleasant shaded walks. I would have liked to have visited after dark (it closes at 9pm) to stargaze but cloudy skies did not make this possible. Better place to visit than the rather disappointing beaches on the island. Would avoid visiting in the heat of the day.

We only saw a little part of the very nice tropical park and went to the free children's playground which was truly amazing. Our 16 month old son had a great time. The playground caters definitely for older kids but the little once can enjoy all the different slides, baby swings and climbing equipment. Playground is spotless clean and in great condition. Big carpark and toilets with baby changing table are next to playground.

This was a wonderful park! They had a great collection of bugs that was relatively cheap to enjoy. The park is bigger than we expected. We entered the South gate which passed a great sight seeing area. Driving further along, there were two bird watching areas, and a restroom facility. We got to the north entrance and visited the bug collection and walked around. We were there for two hours and barely explored a small area of the park. It was a great time, we enjoyed the peacefulness of walking around. Lots of areas to take some great photos. It's worth the visit.
