It seems this famously beautiful bay has been over-touristed and is on its last legs. The views from land are still very beautiful, but the glass bottom boat ride was very disappointing, since the boat when quite fast, never lingering anywhere, everything was "silty" and most of the coral looked dead or dying. They really need to re-think tourism here and make it more eco-friendly to preserve what's left and maybe restore it.

You are not allowed to swim on Kabira Bay. The popular thing is to go on a glass bottom boat ride to see the coral reef. There’s also nice spot to take pics from above.
The place is beautiful, sure it is. But there are other nice beaches around Ishigaki you can actually swim and enjoy it so not sure why Kabira Bay is such a big deal.

Very touristy spot but have a look purely for the amazing water colours. We parked 500 metres further north as yes they charge for parking. The area around the main boating area seems to be regularly cleaned to impress the tourists. 300 to 400 metres further north where I swam was not so lucky and the back of the beach was littered with old plastic bottles and various fishing floats. The water was very clean and plenty of small bright blue fish to see. I wonder how long each boat takes people out as it seemed only around 20 minutes. I do not know how much they charge.

Beautiful bay for kitesurfing. Outside the reef nice rollers while inside the water is super flat even in 25 knots. The spot works during low and high tide. However I recommend to wear shoes due to sharp corals.

The beach is unusable and full of diesel smoke due to an extreme amount of glass bottom boat tours. All the boats are docked on the beach making it unsightly, poluated and unusable.

Although it is ranked highly in Ishigaki attractions but felt short of expectations.

Although the view of the bay with the small islands was ok but not fantastic, we found the beach extremely small. It is not as beautiful or romantic as compared to other beaches. There are just too many glass boats around. Unfortunately you cannot swim there so there isnt really much to do except ride one of the many waiting glass bottom boats out into the bay. The glass-bottom boat trip for half hour is overpriced. Overall, I found the review of this place is overrated. Maybe these people should visit Thailand beaches which are really amazing and breathe taking.

O Dear. Sometimes I worry about the reviews people put on tripadvisor, mainly in the way that it is the complete opposite to the truth, which makes me worry about the accuracy of other reviews which I read about places...

I came here with my husband for our honeymoon for 3 days (we are in our late twenties) and contrary to the reviews below we had an outstanding time. The Bay is no way a tourist trap. Firstly, there isn't even enough people in this town TO BE a tourist trap, so I don't know which town they visited...
The bay was stunning, take your breath away jaw droppingly stunning. Whitest sand and bluest water I have ever seen. There are little isles and island which you can wade to and in terms of snorkelling around the bay, the fishes and coral were amazing.

The bottomless boat tours were fun, and to be honest, not even expensive for what you are getting. The boatmen are not pushy and there are only a couple of them parked there, so if you don't want to go on one, no one is forcing you.

The town itself is beautiful and has a real island relaxing atmosphere. We had some of the best food I have ever had in my life in Kabira bay and I am a very fussy with my food! I think I preferred the meals here than some of the my 3* Michelin experiences in Tokyo or Kyoto. The seafood restaurant Jinbei was so good we went 3 times (fish here is so fresh as the owner catches them himself during the day), and also the island soba restaurant in the centre of town is outstanding. My husband who is not a big fan of noodles was obsessed with the place.

If you are visiting Okinawa, don't bother with the main Honto island which is the real tourist trap, hop to Kabira bay on Ishigaki, and enjoy what a real paradise island life should be.

My two friends are instagrammers and this beach was the highlight of the trip for them. A must see beach for photo ops.

Nice place to visit on an off day when not to many tourists in the area. There’s a small shrine and restaurant area on the hill behind the Bay Area. There’s a cool little coffee shop to relax inside the dome and there’s also Blue seal Okinawa ice cream shop.

The waters here are very pretty and glass bottom boats are available to bring you around the bay. The waters are too turbulent so that swimming is not allowed.
