I went to Oita to check out the architecture of this museum designed by Ban Shigeru. It's about 15-20 minutes' walk from Oita Station. It's a sunny day and the design is particularly impressive in the strong sunlight. The atrium is two-story high and airy,...More

The spacious atrium on the first floor has a cafe, museum shop, and a handful of art works with lots of natural light. The building itself is just as impressive as the works displayed in the galleries on the third floor. The galleries have works...More

One of the recommendation list from traveler blog. And pay a visit there. Not many artifacts during that period. Impressed with those huge masterpiece there, as per photos. Not crowd at all and suggest only 45 mins visit.

OPAM, Oita Prefectural Art Museum, is unique design by Kengo Kuma. It is open air museum and has complicated structure of the second floor. There are exhibitions of those who come from Oita prefecture, which are also unique and distinctive.

This museum exhibits paintings, basically works of Japanese artists. So sometimes there is no any description in English. It might be hard to understand all or sometimes uncomfortable, if you are not able to handle Japanese. But the atmosphere makes you relaxed and feel easy....More

Beautiful museum - architecture as well as content. Would like a little more English description of shows, especially the new changing exhibits.

Having heard very positive stories about the OPAM, I went there one afternoon. The most impressive aspect is the building itself. Some of the artwork was great of course, but there is really only one gallery for which a ticket is 1,000 Yen (which I...More

Really interesting and fun collection of contemporary art, and some fun featured artist exhibitions throughout. It's the kind of museum you just want to hang out in! The building is gorgeous too!
