GREAT family day trip!

Scattered about 25 kilometers from the outside of sasebo bay to the north of Hirado, Kujukushima are beautiful natural landscapes with a complex interwoven rias coast and islands.
Almost the entire area has been designated as the “Saikai national park”, and the density of islands is the highest in Japan.
Ninety-nine is used as a metaphor for the number that means so much, and the true number of islands is 208.

The resort comprised of Cruise excursion terminal, Kujukushima Aquarium, souvenir shops and restaurants. Cruise pamphlet available in different languages and narration during the cruise ride was in both Japanese and English. Felt the 50 minutes cruise (1200 yen) gone by quickly as the scenery of 99 Islands was so amazing. We went to the top deck to enjoy the gentle breezes and waves of the sun while capturing the spectacular sceneries.

There were regular and rapid buses ran from Sasebo JR station to Pearl Sea every half hour for 230 yen per trip. Set tickets for cruise trip plus one day bus pass for 1400 yen were available in JR station ticketing counters.
Wish to return in winter to taste the local specialty of oysters.

This is the starting point of the kujukushima(99 islands). Spare half day including time to buy a tickets for the one hour boat trip to 99 islands.

There are two boats. The pirate boat is a new one. The white boat is an old one. They both serve the same route of one-hour boat trip.

Tucked away at the western tip of Japan, the tour 99 islands attraction provide a calming and interesting journey. A package ticket, consisting of a return bus ticket and a cruise ride, is available at the JR Sasebo station (The final station on the JR West Line) if you have a valid JR ticket for the day. At the resort, exchange the ticket at the admission counter and you will be ready to board one of the next few available cruise rides which departs almost every 30min. We were fortunate to secure a scenic spot on the top deck of the cruise that we were on board and that allowed us to take in the majestic view of the 99 islands. In fact, the area is actually made up of 208 islands instead of the 99 mentioned in its name. Not to be missed would be the one of the small island that featured in the film The Last Samurai. Commentaries are available in Japanese, English, Korean and Chinese so you definitely would not missed out on that last point.

Kuju-ku Islands tour – We rode the Pearl Queen boat and circled some of the 208 islands in this Saikai National Park in Sasebo City which is part of Nagasaki prefecture. Went to the acquarium, did pearl removal and got to keep the pearl.

This is a beautiful tropical area in the South Island of Kyushu. The is an aquarium and a chance to take a scenic cruise to see the 99 islands. The cruise provides the history of the region. There are also shops and restaurants. A nice relaxing way to spend a few hours.

My husband and I just wanted to have my girl ride a boat. We did not expect anything more. However the beautiful small islands and crystal clear seawater made her experience even more special and wonderful. This is really a must-visit place in Sasebo!

This is a very nice outing. The coast line in this area of Japan has hundreds of small islands. The Pearl Queen takes you on an hour long trip. There was a guide over the loud speaker that spoke both Japanese and English. The water is very clear and the scenery is wonderful. I stood on the back of the boat and was able to get wonderful pictures. There are snacks to purchase on the boat but there are a lot of food areas outside where tickets are purchased. Be sure to look around the dock to see jelly fish. The National Park is about a 15 minute taxi ride from Sasebo Naval Base.

We went on a weekday and it was pretty quiet, Most of the visitors aseemed to have come by tour bus or by car; we took the city bus and it was easy to find the place. It was a cold and windy day. We could see oyster and pearl farms as we enjoyed the cruise around the islands. The captain is very experienced and steered through the challenging sections with ease; we could enjoy some sense of adventure balancing ourselves on the ferry when he was doing a u turn and charting through choppy waters in some parts of the cruise. Overall it was a nice experience and the duration was just right. There is nothing much to do after the cruise so we killed time at the souvenir shop next to the bus stop while waiting for city bus to take us back to JR Sasebo station.

We enjoyed a trip among the 200+ islands on the Pearl Queen at the Saikai Pearl Sea Resort. The boat was very comfortable and relaxing, and the scenery beautiful. The trip takes about 50 minutes and is well worth the time. Another boat, a "pirate ship" is available for touring the islands as well. We took this trip after visiting the aquarium at the resort which is also worthwhile. It is small, but so interesting you would not want to miss it. After our cruise, we had drinks at Pinocchio and then dinner at a restaurant next door, the best dinner and service you could ask for. It was my last day in Sasebo and was very memorable.
