This mansion has a charming garden and is well maintained but the lack of descriptions within the mansion in English makes it disappointing as some of the rooms looked really interesting.

I found the layout of the house and the furnishings and gardens to be very interesting but I really felt there was far too little information on the family that occupied the Mansion. The Mansion is a distance from the Castle through the lovely park...More

Being experienced Japan travellers, we were not very impressed. Why on earth don't they dig more in the interesting Hosokawa family history (Garasha a.k.a. Gracia) instead of showing some furniture?

Behind the castle is this place location. Either walk or take the tram to the nearest station with shorter walk way. The place is old house and reconstructed to show how the place would be.

This is an interesting example of a higher samurai's villa--it was actually owned by one of the young brothers of the daimyo (feudal lord). Once you've visited the excellent castle and are still looking for something to do it is worth a visit to see...More

The visit to this samurai mansion was so delightful. We were almost the only ones going from on room to another, looking out into the garden or the interior courtyards. For 150 yen more you can buy an entry ticket at the same time as...More
