The cable car is shut due to earthquake damage, but you can either drive up to the crater (as of Spring 2018) or walk from the lower carpark by the cable car. There is also a shuttle bus. If you can get to the crater...More

Mt. Aso in every season has an amazing view. Good to relax and experience. You can try horseback riding, helicopter ride for an aerial view of the volcano also trekking. A must go!

Cable car or gondola ride was still closed during March 2016. We can only see Mt. Aso from a distance. Not worth going.

Some great views of the Caldera on the way up, however sadly only cloud at the top, worth the risk for the view if you get it!

Nice drive to here from Takachiho, somewhat reminiscent of Swiss countryside with cows too. View of billowing smoke from the volcano mouth is cool, but very bummed that we weren't able to go all the way to the crater as this is what all the...More

Hi You can't take the cable car as it's close but it's nice to see it at a distance. The drive there was really scenic with mountains around you. Go to the Mt Aso geopark.
