The ferry between Sakurajima and the mainland runs several times each hour and the relatively small ferries carry passengers and vehicles to and from the volcano in about 20 minutes. Views from the ferry of both the mainland and the volcano are spectacular on a nice day. Ferries have elevators up to the passenger deck for the mobility challenged. Fun... More

This is right next to the Aquarium and only takes 10 minutes. You pay as you get off at the Sakurajima side and it's worth having the change ready. Less than 200 yen. You can sit inside or enjoy the view from outside and there are loos, bins and a place to buy drinks and snacks. Service is frequent, we... More

The ferry runs every 10 minutes and it takes 15 minutes to cross over to the 'island '. If you buy a one or two-day sightseeing pass from the station it includes the ferry, sightseeing bus on the island, city sightseeing bus and trams. Very good value.

So it was 160¥ to cross from Kagoshima to Sakurajima. What a great deal. Nice warm weather helps. I took a local bus for a tour was only 500¥ and it was good if your time is limited. Lots of stop off points. Very beautiful place to take the ferry. The ferry has everything you need. It's very Clean and... More

We had a perfect spring day for our ferry ride to Sakurajima. We came by train to Kagoshima-Chuo and form her we caught a local train to Kagoshima Station which is very old and in need of a renovation. From here it was a short walk to the ferry terminal. Ferries go every 15 minutes or so and as someone... More

Taking this ferry is the only way to reach Sakurajima. We have fantastic coast view when leaving Kagoshima and mountain view when reaching Sakurajima. The view of Sakurajima is best from this ferry rather than the island itself. This It's cheap and delightful way to travel. It's a must when visit Kagoshima.
