We took the ferry to visit the volcano and it was a typical ferry ride. On a clear day, I bet there are some spectacular views of Kagoshima and Sakurajima -- no so for us, unfortunately.

The ferry pier is very closed to the city center. We took a small car to take the ferry. At first we though it would be shorter than 3M but at last the staff counted us over 3M. anyway, it doesn't matter much. We were...More

Nothing special here, but it's the access to Sakurajima Island from the port at Kagoshima, a brisk 10-15 min walk from the station. You pass a quaint tram stop outside the station, with a pretty flower display, before continuing another 3 - 4 blocks to...More

These amazing ferries run back and forth at frequent intervals. You do not have to wait longer than 15 minutes, and they take 15 minutes to make the crossing.

I am not sure which ferry was which but the ferry from the west side of the Kagoshima Peninsula to the east side midway down the peninsula is reported to have the best Udon and ramen soup. We tried it and it was delicious and...More
