Great and Easy Service
Mar 2021
My stay in Kagoshima was extended so one day I planned on bike riding around Sakurajima Island. The ferry leaves port daily about every 15 minutes, so don't sweat it if you miss it. I brought my bike on the ferry and it was such an easy and cheap process. You enter with the bike where the cars go and leave with them. You pay at Sakurajima and it was an extra 100 Yen for the bike. The ferry ride was smooth and quick and the staff was great! I highly recommend seeing the island by bike.

Fun, but short, ferry ride to Sakurajima
Mar 2020 • Couples
Nice ferry boat carrying cars and people. There’s no charge to board but a ¥200 fee to enter the island. There’s an interior cabin with decent seating, toilets and a cafe selling the best sweet potatoes you could ever hope to have. Overpriced but delicious. It’s about a 15 minute ride and you have a great view of Sakurajima in both directions. It’s about the only way to get to the island.

Nice Ferry
Oct 2019
Easy way to get to the Sakurajima volcano. The ride is quick and relatively inexpensive. The only negative is that it was difficult to find the ferry port from the land side, there was not good signage and the locals gave conflicting information so we mistakenly went to the other port.

Recall To Vehiclular Ferry In Hong Kong
Dec 2019
The ferry pier is located near Dolphin Port with about 5-7 mins walk. It was an ordinary small vehicular ferry and gave me a recall to the bigger one in Hong Kong when I was young. Very cheap fare for passengers who paid their fares Yen200 at Sakurajima ferry pier. You can stay on the upper floor but is windy. The ferry took 15 mins or less to run from Kagoshim ao Sakurjima. Between 9-10am, they have frequent trips per hour. No worry of missing fery as it runs all day.

Convenient connection between Kagoshima and Sakurajima
Dec 2019
Very frequent service but it cost more than 1500 yen for compact cars which is on the high side if compared similar service in Hong Kong.

Lovely ferry, I wish we had time for ramen!
Nov 2019
Beautiful vintage looking ferries with plenty of seating and even a ramen shop! There is a lift for people with disabilities but it is slow. Very fast and comfortable ride to the island

Vehicular ferry to Sakurajima
Oct 2019 • Friends
A very nice ferry trip with friends in a rented car crossing over to the volcanic island. Pay booth is on the island side for both in and out visitors on ferry. Its a drive through pay booth. Since the volcano keeps on emitting smoke and ashes, wearing mask may be a good idea when in downwind side. When booking hotels on Kagoshima, try one overlooking the volcano. It may be quite a scene to look through the windows. Lucky enough you might see it erupting!Believe me, when it does you will be awed by the force of the mother nature and feeling going back to the primitive earth some millions of year back!

Short ferry ride
Oct 2019
This ferry looks very nice. It is big and it looks well maintained. The usual Japan look where they like things to look pretty/beautiful. The ride was smooth, I think it was like 15-20 minutes. We tried the noodles. It is not overly great but it was decent enough considering it was in a ferry. Overall, it was a nice experience to get close to mt. Sakurajima

Lovely ferry
Oct 2019 • Couples
If you want to visit Sakurajima I highly recommend taking this lovely ferry. It is has a shabby chic to it which we found quite charming. The short trip to the volcano offers beautiful views. When you’re going back to Kagoshima I’m the evening hours you will enjoy a beautiful sunset.

Why isn’t this 5 stars?
Oct 2019
I haven’t read the reviews but I am chuckling that this ferry wouldn’t get 5 stars. It runs every 15 minutes. It costs 200yen (less than 2USD?!). There’s a floor with air conditioned seating and a third floor with spectacular views and it literally takes you to one of the most active volcanoes in the world. Easiest 5-star rating I’ve given.
