For me, not a Japanese, the statue isn't too meaningful for me. I know about him only when I visited Kagoshima this time. We just stopped by, saw it and took a photo with it. That's all.

It is good to stop by Saigo Takamori Statue if interested in Japanese History. The location is just near the bus stop of Cityview bus and also few minutes walk to Terukuni jinja. I will say it is a must-see point.

Saigo Takamori is an important contributor to the Meji Restoration and a hero of kagoshima. But if you are not familiar with Japanese history, this statue does not mean much to you.
