i think it is a must to go to Sakurajima to feel the power of the nature. It is very easy to go there by ferry. I suggest you to go by driving so you could enjoy every spot better. The bus on the island...More

If you go to Kagoshima, you should go to see Mt Sakarajima. We drove there so we could control the time by ourselves. If you take the bus there, you would have pressure to stay at every spots. It was a pity that thick clouds...More

We saw the volcano Sakurajima very briefly on our recent cruise call to Kagoshima. It was just visible when our cruise ship docked, and we got a photo but thereafter it was covered by heavy cloud. An excursion would have been a waste of time.

Very active volcano, you can go pretty close. Very crowded during holidays but worth the watch. Beware of some ash falling. better not to wear white may be ;) .

Quick and easy. A taxi will make things quicker. I then took a bus which you can stay on...or get on and off...I was lucky to see an eruption of smoke when I stopped off. It can be as quick as you make it. Check bus... More
