I have worked at an aquarium and have kept many fish over the years. Now I feel sad when I see fish and animals in aquariums. But this was a nice one. Compared to the ocean a tank can never be big enough. It looks like they take very good care of the creatures. I really don't like to see... More

I often come here with my wife and child (buy a yearly pass for the price of a couple of visits) when we are out for a relaxing afternoon near the sea. The selection of fish and sea life is excellent and so are both the indoor and outdoor dolphin displays. I don't recommend the cafeteria however, that is the... More

The aquarium is very accessible by the tram and buses. It's right next to the ferry to sakurajima. They have daily feedings show for multiple animals. The dolphins show was pretty amazing. Unfortunately it's all in Japanese.

I've visited 3 major aquariums in Japan, and so far, I've liked this the most. Upon entry, the escalator takes you through a long tunnel where you feel like you are descending beneath the waves to the heart of the ocean. You wind up before the main tank where the rays and Whale Shark are kept. It does seem a... More

The highlight of the aquarium is the huge whale shark tank in the center. A small stadium seating pool for dolphin shows is also adjacent but as it was going through remodeling, no shows were scheduled. A claustrophobic pool with the dolphins were open to visitors where they can get a glimpse. However, most animal lovers would be angered at... More

We went here on a whim, when the weather looked like it was going to be bad. We really enjoyed seeing the interesting fish and sea critters in the aquarium. It wasn't too crowded, even though it was a holiday period.

The aquarium is right on the water next to the bay. Similar to the Osaka aquarium, it has a large main tank with a whale shark. Other smaller tanks have nice displays and the creatures seem well taken care of. All in all, a nice place to spend a rainy day in Kagoshima. Note, easily reached by the tram line... More

Being a dolphin lover I was a little nervous about visiting this museum as the pool Where they perform is very small! It was a great show, the Dolphins seemed really well cared for, and they have a larger area to swim in outside the pool. I'm still not convinced it's a great environment for the animals, but I do... Impressive exhibits and good place to head if it's raining. No much info in English but enough to know what you're looking at. Dolphin show is entertaining, but somewhat cheesy - kids would love it.
