I went there on a cloudy day so when I was arrived at the observatory, the city view and the volcano view were not so clear. Anyway, taking the island bus around and looking out at the beautiful nature around Gigantic Sakurajima was kinda fun...More

wished we had more time when we visited Sakurajima. Without your own transport/car, it could be a barrier to mvoe around as i think there are quite a few spots that we could have visited. Could have spend 1 full day here.

It's worth going to Kagoshima just for Sakurajima alone. This active volcano is visible from most parts of Kagoshima and the volcanic dust that lies around everywhere is evidence that this is definitely an active volcano. Kagoshima is very easy to get around as overseas...More

Whether from distance or nearby the mountain, you can enjoy the scenery. Sometimes you can see the cloud or fume caused by eruptions which is a daily issue. It may be a good idea to rent a car to drive around the island.

We visited Sakurajima from a shore excursion. The 15 minute ferry ride across the bay is well worth it. It's surprising that people still actually live on this active volcanic island. Lots of photo opportunities even when it's overcast, which it was when we were...More

Caught the ferry across. Travel around by bus and on foot. Saw all the sights and had a wonderful day. Amazing to get up close to the smoking volcano

Yes, you can. Price list of the car ferry is here. If you drive an ordinary car, you are suppose to pay less than 2000yen for a car.
