IT is always impressive to see something showing how powerful the nature could be. We drove so it is easy to reach there. There were quite a lot of ashes during our visit. you don't need to spare much time here.

This is reachable by a local bus which is not included in Welcome Cute Pass. But, it worth visiting. It's almost like a park on a mountain area. Sakurajima Volcano is well-viewed and there's amazing volcanic terrain around. At the entrance, it's also fun to...More

We were at the Lava Lookout about 10:00 in the morning. While the temperature in Kagoshima was about +19, it felt like +30 at the lookout point, which is some 2.5 km away from the south tip of volcano. Although there is no kind of...More

Probably would not have made effort to come here but for an organised tour. There had been a significant eruption the day prior and there was dust everywhere! There are several paths with plenty of stairs so be warned! Clean toilets and some signage in...More

I took the tourist bus to the lookout, a day ticket only costs 500 Yen and you can get on & off the bus at any stop you choose.

We took a rental car to get here, and that is the way I recommend to get around on Sakurajima because the public transportation doesn't seem very effective. From the top of the viewing area, you can see a good view of the volcano and...More

This is an active volcano. Smoke rises constantly from the vents above. The Lava is a reminder that eruptions have happened before. Twisted & convoluted sculptures in lava. People on the Island have built lava shelters and special canals to confine the lava. However a...More

We took a public bus to this lookout-- about twenty minutes to get there. Unfortunately, the buses don't run that frequently. We recommend renting your own car, or hiring a driver. Otherwise, the observatory offers a nice view of the volcano, as well as scenic...More

You can see the volcano cloud. You can see the sea and Kaimondake(mountain at Ibusuki city) far away. Take a bus to get there.
