It's a really nice place to explore and they have really nice exhibitions. The outside courtyard was really stunning and made me feel very comfy.

The exhibits were interesting, detailing the development of Fukuoka/Hakata from the bronze-age upwards. There wasn't much by way of English descriptions on the exhibits, but I'm not going to mark them down for that as it's commonly the case in Japan.

We visit the exhibition hall which housed the historical development of the City. The exhibition materials seems are of permanent nature. We also visited the adjoining exhibition hall which is on "Shogun". The exhibited materials are rich, however, short of descriptions in English. We guess but at least it is a good experience for the young kid. Both halls need... More

Wonderful overview of the history of Fukuoka, with an emphasis on its role in early Japanese diplomacy. On the day I visited, there was a special exhibition on the Battle of Sekigahara. Quite interesting, but the English captions/commentary were limited. I was able to cover both the special and permanent exhibitions in roughly 1.5 hours. A pleasant lunch followed in... More

A admirable attempt to position Fukuoka as port of Japanese civilisation. It is not. The Mongolian invasion exhibit is interesting though.

This city museum, fifteen minutes' walk from the Fukuoka Tower, takes you through the history of the region to the present day, which is fascinating. One of the centrepieces is the Gold Seal, given by a Chinese empereror to an emissary from what is now Japan, forming the earliest bit of evidence of the existence of a civilisation on Japan.... Located in the Seaside Momochi Area, this museum is one of the famous tourist spots of Fukuoka City such as Fukuoka Tower and Yafuoku Dome gathers. We have combined our visit with a trip to F. Tower and also Yafuoka Dome. Upon entry one sees a large Atrium, Museum shop is quite small at a corner. The exhibition rooms are... More

Fairly big and well displayed. Good selection of artifacts although it is mostly typical fare. Cafe has a nice view!

Local museum, nice restaurant, a bit like the 70tees.... Not expenses, let it be part of your walk through Ohori park.

The museum gives an overview of Fukuoka over the history. The most interesting us to learn about its international relations as port and place of diplomatic relations. Explanation us given in English although unfortunately there is not much explained about the traditions in town which is one of the nicest parts.
