Hakozakigu is truly a beautiful shrine. The shrine-complex includes several buildings and the shrine-ground is vast. I can imagine that it would also be a very peaceful place on a normal day if not packed with people during a festival. If you can make it, visit the place between 12th and 18th september and and you'll be amongst the lucky ones who get to experience the Hojoya festival.

i like hakozaki becasue the hala food and masjid to pary near sation really very enjoy thank evey body over there i want go again

Hakozaki Shrine is a short train ride from Hakata Station by JR Kagoshima Line Train (Hakozaki Sta and 5 minute walk) but we took the Hakozaki Line instead and align at Hakozaki Miyamae sta. The beautiful Shrine is famous for its unique front tower gate “敵国降伏.” We visited in early November and probably missed out the Hojoya festival and annual Flea Market which is held here in November. Instead it was the Shichi-Go-San (七五三 "Seven-Five-Three") traditional rite so the premise are crowded with parents and their 7-5-3 years old kids dressed in kimono. Amazing..!
The shrine is approached via a long pathway, with two large stone torii at either end. The Subway Line sta exit is in-between the 2 torii.! Hakozaki Shrine was founded in 923, but was destroyed during the Mongol invasion in 1274. When the shrine was reconstructed, a calligraphy Tekikoku kōfuku - 敵国降伏 was put on the tower gate. The four character calligraphy means "Confound all enemy countries." Numerous building structures, including the main hall, the worship hall, Sakuramon gate, Ichino-torii (gate) and wooden lantern here are designated as important cultural assets. There is a mongolian ship stone anchor sited here too.

We had a short visit at the Hakozaki shrine during our trip last September 2014. The shrine was just a short walk from the Hakozaki-Miyamae station (one-way subway fare was 260 yen from Hakata station). The place was also very serene just like other shrines in Japan but here were some of the interesting things we saw and learned at the Hakozaki shrine:
1. The shrine was constructed sometime in 923 A.D. but most of the structures were reconstructed in the 15th century.
2. The place was an important structural defense against invasion, hence, it was offered to the god of war.
3. There was a large statue of Emperor Daijo Kameyama beside the main shrine.
4. Paintings dating back as early as 15th century are installed at one structure adjacent to the main shrine.
5. There were very friendly pigeons! Bird seeds are available for a fee but the pigeons will still go to you even without the birdseed.
6. There's an 800-year old tree near the entrance that will surely get your attention

We went and really enjoyed it. Google maps may take you to side entrance which works great if you need to park a car.

Hakozakigu is beside Yawata (Kyoto) and Usa (Oita) one of three major Hachimangu shrines in Japan. A passageway from the seaside to the shrine is long and straight, and this gives you an idea how big its premise was. Now you can take a subway and don't need to walk the whole way.

Went on Sunday. when arrived, realized it was 357 festivals ( direct translate from banner ) - in which the kids go to Temple and pray for Good score at age 3, 5, 7
A nice experience to see kids dress in traditional clothes ( Kimono ) & perform the Ceremony with the entire family. A taste of Japanese culture

nice place to walk around and enjoy the surroundings. walking distance from the Hakata train station but do not carry your luggage!

Hakozaki is an important Hachiman shrine and well worth a visit. The approach to the shrine is impressive because of the number of large torii leading to the shrine. There are gardens and shaded walks inside where you can linger and enjoy a quiet moment. I went in June and was lucky to see the shrine's hydrangea garden in full flower. Really beautiful!

One of the larger temples we saw on this trip and relatively quiet. In a way most shrines are set up the same way and this is a fine example if you have only time to visit a limited number.
