We visited WMC in winter. The wether was not so warm so there were not many visitors. It takes 70 min to reach Wakayama JR station from Osaka. Then you need to take bus #42 to final stop (40 min, 510 yen). Do not forget visiting fish market (Kuroshio) in WMC as well as Porto Europa.

I went during a week day, taking a bus from Wakayama JR Station. The whole of Marina City was very deserted. Spent some time near the entrance to Porto Europa Theme Park and in the 20mins I was there I could only see the ticketing staff, no one went in or out and there were very few visitors already inside. The European buildings outside were quite pretty for photo taking though.
So I decided to skip the theme park and instead headed to the Kuroshio Market for lunch. There were a few more people here (probably around 10). To be honest, the food stalls sold very average food for above average prices. There were stalls selling sushi, sashimi, Japanese noodles and sashimi rice and another place selling meats and seafood for you to take outside and BBQ them yourself. I had a Salmon Sashimi Rice with some Salmon roe. This wasn't cheap, but when it came there were only 3 paper thin slices of Salmon and maybe a dozen salmon roes.
I then watched the Tuna Preparation Show with the other 9 people. They were true to their word and cut a whole Tuna in front of us, worth seeing if you have not seen it before.
I then visited the Hot Spring next door, which was pleasant and enjoyable. There were indoor and outdoor springs all with a good view of the Marina (though not much privacy). This was the highlight of my day.

The buffet (viking restaurant) on the second floor had plenty of sushi and sashimi as well as pasta, sweets, fried fish and other things. The Tuna carving show was not as interesting as I had hoped. No real special skill or performance, just cutting a big fish with a knife.

With Wakayama one day bus pass, after visited Wakayama castle, we were back to the station and headed to Marina city. It was the last bus stop. We enjoyed our picking with so many food choices and had a delicious barbecue seafood lunch there. Fruit market with cheap fresh fruits was near.

I had read that there was going to be a New Year's Eve celebration so we made the trip there from Kobe. There is a Tully's coffee shop and a fish market. You can buy food to barbecue if you want to dine there. I'm vegetarian so we bought mostly vegetable to grill. Was quite expensive. Better to bring your own veggies to cook if you can smuggle it in.
The Onsen there was nice and relaxing. Spent about an hour and a half soaking.
There is also a tatami room where you can relax. Spent another hour killing time as we wanted to go for the countdown concert and fireworks at midnight.
The concert was sponsored by FM 802. Not bad. But because this was Japan, there was not much excitement, didn't even feel like it was New Years. Everyone was so calm and subdued.
The Port Europa can be avoided. It's an extra cost for the entrance just to see some lights.
Ok to go once. Won't be going again.
Because it was NYE, had to pay 1500 yen for parking.

The Marina city is just a little port whereby some sailing boats are parked there.

I think it is a good idea to stay in this hotel as you may visit the fresh fish market, fruit store, Europa park and even hot spring during the day. By staying in the room, it got a balcony facing the Marina scenery and the room is well decorated too. It offers lots of car parking space too. I have spent some time for fishing on the next day. Overall, I think the destination is good.

We went to the seafood market, and the place is quite touristy, and most stalls selling fresh seafood, souvenirs and seafood products. There are many fresh seafood restaurants too. We had lunch here and the salmons, tuna and most of the seafood are quite fresh though. The highlight of the seafood market is the tuna cutting show which is presented 3 times a day, 11:00, 12:30 and 15:00.
Other than visiting the markets, there's not much things to do other than going for onsen nearby, so just half a day visit is more than enough.
