旧東海道沿いに鎮座します。「いわい」神社、と読みます。所用で近所に来ましたので立ち寄りました。小さな神社ですが、何やら多くの祭神が祀られており、重文を複数有しています。厄除け、七五三、安産、家内安全、学業成就・・・・と、何でもござれのようです。由緒正しいのかもしれませんが、荘厳な空気は感じられませんね。

石坐神社の創建は定かではありませんが近江国国造である治田連が御霊殿山を祀ったのが始まりと伝えられています。そして６８６年尊良法師が社殿を建立したとも言われています。また1600年の関ヶ原の戦いでは西軍の陣が敷かれているほど歴史長き神社です。
平安時代の木造天命開別命坐像や木造伊賀采女宅子媛坐像、木造弘文天皇坐像が国の重要文化財に指定されています。境内は広く整備されています。

ここらの神社では手水舎の水も出ていないところま多いのですが、冷たいお水がでています。
古木もあって良い雰囲気の神社です。天智天皇との縁起はここらの定番ですね。

この神社は13世紀にはあったのです。この神社は門や堀で囲まれていたようです。旧東海道沿いにあり位置的にも膳所城の防衛の役割を担っています。今は静かな時を刻んでいます。

静かな住宅街にある、地元の人からも愛される神社です。
お散歩がてらよく通ります。
御神木にも癒されますよ。
節分の時期は豆まき、など行事もよくやっています。

旧東海道沿いに面する古社です。住宅地の中にありますが、境内は静かにお参りできました。境内社の八大龍王宮は、厄除けの神様とのことです。
