Nothing special

Airport baggage services will not accept luggage for delivery over 30kg, so if you plan on getting your luggage delivered be careful of the weight.
Free shuttle buses will take you between terminals.
Selection of reasonably priced restaurants available. If you're departing from the Peach terminal there's not much selection in regards to shopping or eating. Best to get something at the main terminal before getting on the shuttle bus.

I suggest taking the train over the bus on arrival to get to your final destination. Staff working at the bus terminal were rude and unhelpful.

Nothing much to add other than used it for the first time and was interested to discover that it is built on a man made island 3 miles offshore in the Bay of Osaka.

It's massive, and engineering marvel, with a train station connecting to the Kansai region and the rest of Japan. Can read about on Wiki. It won some coveted prizes in the engineering world. Architect Renzo Piano designed the longest terminal in the world for it.

Unfortunately I did not partake of all the great restaurants and gift stores and shops there as I was focused on coming and going to maximize time in Japan.

Amazing Airport!
May 2019
Osaka Kansai is one of the best airport in the world. It's extremely clean and modern. Staff are polite and friendly. It's very convenient to travel around Japan from Kansai as I took a train to and from Kyoto. Also, restaurants at the airport were good, and not expensive like any other airport restaurants.

Excellent Airport Limousine Bus Kobe-KIX
Oct 2019
A friend and I took the KATE Airport Limousine Bus Express between Kobe and KIX in early afternoon on a weekday and were delighted with the service. Our hotel gave us the schedule for the bus, which had a stop just a 6-minute walk away near the Sannomiya Station. The transport leaves Kobe at various intervals between 04:50 and 22:00. Our one-way tickets required travel-day purchase and cost 2,000 ¥ (about $20 U.S. each). They proved to be easy to buy from a vending machine near the bus stop.

An employee stowed our bags in the luggage compartment and we were the first to board the bus. This enabled us to get front seats, which afforded wonderful views of the bay. It took about 1 hour, with no stops, to reach Terminal 1 (International) at KIX. The seats were comfortable and the ride was smooth with little traffic on the road. About 10 other passengers joined us on the extremely clean bus.

The JR from Izumisano to Kansai is a cheap, quick effective way to commute. Both sihns and announcements fully in English

Airport Limousine Service
Sep 2019
The bus was clean and departed regularly but there were some issues. There is a credit card facility at the airport but not at the pick-up point outside the Sheraton Miyako Hotel which is inconvenient for foreigners. It was also first in best dressed so you had to line up. They could learn from the Tokyo Limousine Bus Service

Very limited restaurants
Jul 2019 • Family
The airport is modern - designed by the famous Renzo Piano. It is built on an artificial island. It is easily reached by public transport.. All good so far. However, eat well before you get there as there are very limited restaurants and bars. Oh and few places to sit once you have got your tray. Shame because other than that it's a convenient and interesting airport.

Kansai Area Pass, Kansai Wide Pass, One Pass, ICOCA --- tips on which passes to get
May 2019 • Family
UNDERSTANDING JAPAN'S TRAIN SYSTEM'S COMPLICATIONS:

1) They have different operators (companies). JR is the largest.
2) They also have different types of trains (e.g. express trains that stops only at every "town" at least 15 minutes apart, subway trains are more like MRT since it stops every few minutes, limited area trains, etc. Shinkansen is a bullet train and has its own pricing per way, Think: more like booking a flight... with similar prices...)
3) They have different durations of passes (e.g. 1, 5, 7, 21days etc)
4) They have different categories of seats (allocated seats are more expensive and generally not covered by area passes.)
5) Most operators don't accept the passes from another.
6) Some passes of one operator has greater discounts than others, so if two train companies can get you to your destination, you gotta choose which one to take.
7) The exact same train might not go to the same destination. E.g. first half of the train is headed one direction while the second half will be de-linked and heading to another direction.

KNOWING HOW TO MAXIMIZE THE PASSES:

We bought three different passes for our 9-day trip, and here's how we maximized their use by planning ahead and purchasing ALL three passes at one go so we don't have to waste time queuing to buy again:
1) JR Kansai Area Pass (1-day) at 2200yen per person
2) JR Kansai Wide Pass (5-day) at 9000yen per person
3) One Pass at 3000yen per person (2500yen value+500 deposit)

The beauty of Japanese train system, you should know, is that they are precise. Not just in their timing, but also in their pricing. Sure, you can get a 21-day pass that covers the whole Osaka. But if you're not gonna go everywhere, why should you pay for "extra pricing"? It's like paying for 10 ingredients in your noodles when you really only want 2 of them. So the onus is on YOU to do the research on and mix-and-match the best combination for your trip. For us, we will be crossing cities from 3rd to 6th day. There are no 6-day passes. Therefore, our best combination would be a 1day+5day passes = 6days. That's 1day AREA pass that covers a limited area, and a 5day WIDE AREA pass that covers a larger area. JR passes are expensive, but if you're going to cover long distances (e.g. cross cities and with at least a few rides above and hour), it's worth it to get the passes. Individual tickets compounded will be even more expensive.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN AREA PASS, ONE PASS AND ICOCA:

Area pass covers unlimited rides within an area in limited days.
One Pass and ICOCA are both like EZlink cards for Singapore. One Pass cards apparently have cuter anime designs though, and discounts at selected stores. For both cards, you store value in the card, and you pay for whichever number of stops you took. That means if we had to pay for every mistake/ wrong train you took, unlike Area pass where all "wrong trains" you tok are still inclusive. That said, with ample research and reliance on the extremely clear (despite complicated) JR app, you shouldn't be getting lost!

GETTING REFUND BEFORE DEPARTING OSAKA:

Sure you can keep your cards as souvenirs if you want to. But most people would choose to refund those few dollars in the cards since it could mean they could enjoy at least one more meal or a few drinks at the airport. Do factor in time to do the refund, because boy are the queues long. Factor 30 minutes for the queue.

Eat before going to departure lounge
Mar 2019 • Family
Our departure was the only one accessed by train, no notice advising that there were no restaurants at this departure lounge (sorry can't remember the number). Only food available was from a small grocery type outlet.

Go to the observation deck for free. The best in the world.
Jul 2018 • Family
Prior to departure to Tokyo, we had an hour and 40 minutes and we took a chance to go to the observation deck of Osaka international airport, Kansai. The airport provides a free Shuttle service. The KIX observation deck is the best of the 150 airports in the world where I've been. Its unique "feature" is that it is located at the beginning of the runway, where the aircraft taxied to take off. That's why we need the Shuttle. In addition to the observation deck in the tower there is a shop with aviation symbols, models of aircraft, etc. We managed in 40 minutes! But it's late in the evening, so it is better not to risk and lay an hour or more.
