We literally stumbled into this shop while wandering in Nara Park from the Todaiji temple to the Kasuga shrine on a trip in May 2018. I’ve always admired Japanese blades, but the cost stateside seemed too steep to justify. However, at $250, a personalized right-hand fish prep knife made a unique and beautiful souvenir that is now one of my kitchen favorites. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we had no trouble with our transaction, though it was interesting to work through how they would engrave my name on the knife. We understood that they always try to have an English speaker in the store for those of us who aren’t conversant in Japanese.

Sorry for the late reply! Thank you so much for your kind words! We really REALLY appreciate them. Just like any other tourist spots, Nara Park has been very quiet. We can't wait to hear all the stories that travelers share with us!

And not only knifes- scissors, nail clippers, etc
You can buy a knife made by the house or from other manufacturers. And they engrave on Japanese a name of your choice.
The service is very good. You can pay tax free as well.
And the packaging is fantastic.

Hello

Good morning

Yesterday I buy a sword and two knifes in your shop in Nara.

Your sails man don’t give me a declaration that it is a “fake” sword, and know I have problem to send it to my country, Portugal.

It is possible send me this declaration by email?

In this moment I m in Kioto and it isn’t possible return to Nara.

If I have not this declaration my sword must stay in Japan and I lose my money.

I will appreciate

Best regards

This store sells a good range of hand-forged uchihamono cutlery. It may looks like a traditional store, but we would like to mention their Deer-shaped Pastries, Kanoko. It is a cute custard pastry in the shape of deer. Very delicious, it is not selling everywhere in Nara, but if you come across these cute little custard pastries, you must try it. It tasted especially good when its fresh.

Thank you for your comment. Yes, our deer shaped pastries “KANOKO” is our new original sweet and baked them almost every day at our store. If you can come over AM, you would find fresh (hot) one and it is very special experience for you! Please check our twitter out to find the baking schedule. ‎@kikuichi_meisan We are looking forward to seeing you again!

Samurai sword maker's shop, need I say more?!?! The master sword smith was employed by the emperor of Japan and thus all the blades have the imperial seal on it. I purchased a kitchen knife and they even engraved my name on the other side of the blade! Hands down, the sharpest blade I've ever used, I love it! I didn't get to wield the original samurai sword, as the master was not in at that time, but I did get to wield a 'replica' one. Replica meaning it is not owned by a real samurai, but it was sharp nonetheless. If you're into knives you gotta come here!
