This was a good tour, I think since most people are in Nara for a short time its nice to have the guidance. out guide was great and explained a lot of things, especially at the big buddha. I do think the price is a touch steep, 2000 would be reasonable, but still worth the money

Our group of three friends took this tour in Nara. Nobu-san was our guide that day. We took the Kintetsu line and had to walk over to the Nara JR station to get to the tour start. We asked at the Nara tourism info desk at JR station and they directed us to go upstairs to the concourse level of the station where we found Nobu-san with her white flag. (Note to Nara Walk - how about a second starting point for people who do not take the JR line?). The walk was easily great value. Nobu-san was a source of rich information about Japanese culture, religious traditions, meanings and symbolism of everything that we saw during our walk. We peppered her with questions, and she invariably had very good answers - surely we weren't the first visitors she had hosted, and she knew her stuff. She took us through the main sights of Nara and even though the tour ran longer than expected, she graciously indulged our questions and made it truly enjoyable. At the end of the tour, she gave us suggestions for things to do, lunch options, etc. She even took us to a neighborhood restaurant, and upon our strong insistence, she graciously joined us for lunch. We continued to talk about Japanese culture, life in Japan, and social dynamics (aging population, declining childbirth rates, etc.). I strongly recommend this tour experience. Foreigners need able raconteurs to understand a layered, opaque culture like Japan. Nobu-san was one such great storyteller. I wholeheartedly recommend this tour experience for others.

Your kind comment is very encouraging for me as a tour guide. I'm so glad to know you and your friends enjoyed the tour in Nara. We were on the train arriving to Kintetsu-Nara station, not to JR station where the tour begins. However, we called and arranged to join at the first stop at Kasuga shrine. We had a peaceful, relaxing, beautiful tour with Mayumi, more than 3 hours.

It was a longer tour than planned, but I was very happy to be able to guide you to my favorite places like Nigatsu-do temple and so on. We had the guided tour with Motoko. We were 2 couples in this guided tour, and I learned a lot with our guide about the japanese culture, the difference between buddhism and shinto and the meaning of many elements we can find in the temples in Japan. It was also very interesting to know about the history of the families that "built" the temples and the nature of the events that led to so many reconstructions of the buildings and places we were lucky to see in Nara. It didn't feel rushed at all, we didn't have to queue ourselves for tickets and we even got to give cookies to the deer and see a Noh theater! Motoko-san offered also to take some pictures of us! Thank you so much for your tour and your kindness, Motoko! Hope you continue to succeed in learning portuguese!
