Amazingly serene classical Japanese garden. Definitely a recommendation especially during fall. Please enjoy your stay and take some colorful pictures.

This garden is situated between Kofukuji Temple and Todaiji Temple (both World Heritages). There is a house with glass doors which were made by hands; therefore the glass planes are not flat and smooth. The garden shows different colors depending on each season.

This was a beautiful find in Nara - it's far away from the crowds and so very peaceful and quiet. We visited when the autumn colours were glorious - beautiful hues of yellow, orange and red. It's free for international tourists - just show some ID!

First, foreigners get a free pass. Second, not overly crowded. Peaceful, lovely rest houses oozed with ambience and charm. Not much colour yet, nor flowers but the mosses were in good form.

Really lovely visit. Near other attractions. And free. No reason not to go. Nice little brochure, too.

This was a great introduction to Japanese gardens for me. I was happy to find that this garden is free if you show a foreign passport, and it ended up being one of the best gardens I saw in my time in Japan! The three segments are all beautiful, and the tea house set the perfect atmosphere. The other bonus is that, unlike the nearby Todai-ji Temple and deer-friendly parks that are crawling with tourists, Yoshiki-en is very quiet and had very few tourists. Incredibly relaxing and a good break from the rabble of other Nara sites.

Most people come to Nara to see deer. I am not so much into animals, as I am peaceful and relaxing experiences. I had Isuien garden on my list to visit and just my luck, it was closed on the day I went to Nara. I discovered this garden right next door and went. For some odd reason, they require you to show ID and prove you're a foreigner, I obliged and my mother and I spent about an hour here, just taking in the beauty and nature of the area. It's a great spot for meditation or just relaxing and in contrast to Isuien, is free for Gaijin. My favourite spot in Nara.

We went into this garden as it was free, as opposed to Isui-en garden. You have to show ID. Not sure why??? Strange.

It was not so big; however still consists of three parts: The Moss Garden, The Pond Garden, The Tea Ceremony Garden.

It was really beautiful and peaceful, well worth the visit!

Very beautiful, free for foreigners. The counter staff will ask you where did you get info about this place. Best part is less crowds and no deer stink.

I had read on a blog to visit the gardens and I'm so glad we did! It's off from the main road and away from Nara park which was actually a blessing. I'm assuming people either don't know about it or only care to see the touristy things. It's free for international travelers as long as you show your ID/passport. The gardens were absolutely beautiful and so welcoming after being around crowds.
