Great custom 6 hour walking tour with Elodie in Nara! We met our guide at the JR station in Nara and took the bus into the city. We walked through Nara Park and fed the deer. Next we went to Todaiji Temple, Kikuichi Monju Shiro Kanenaga (for knives), Kasuga Taisha Shrine (and lanterns), thru the streets of old Nara, around Sarusawa Pond, down Sanjo-Dori St. to Nakatanidou (just in time to watch mochi pounding at 13:00), and to Mugi No Kura Udon for the best tempura and udon. We looked in shops on Higashimuki Nakamachi which included desserts and an antique store. Elodie helped me negotiate the purchase of a 200 year old Daikokuten. Lastly we went to Kofukuji Temple.
Elodie was a knowledgeable and patient guide on a hot day. Communication in English and Japanese was fantastic.
Furthermore, Remi (the owner) worked with me for several months before this tour answering all my questions about Kyoto and Nara which was really appreciated.
I highly recommend Japan Tour Adventure!! Thank you!

We had a fabulous time on this tour and it is definitely the best way to see Nara. They arranged for us to have electric bikes with child seats on the back and front for our two little kids which made the tour very comfortable and enjoyable for us.

Our guide Kalin was lovely and knowledgeable and was great with our kids.

The booking process was so easy and communication was great. They are very flexible, allowing us to change our tour date the day before to avoid the typhoon.

Highly recommend this tour and this company.

Thanks for booking with us and for the review. I'm glad you could enjoy the tour just before the typhoon. Warm regards.

We stayed in Nara for a long time and did this tour after 3 weeks visiting the city. Remi showed us some really interesting places where tourists don't go. We just loved our tour. The bikes are great and makes it easier. The view on top of the mountain is beautiful. Wonderful guide and wonderful tour! Thank you again

Great way to visit not only the major sites of Nara but also the narrow lanes if the old parts of town. Great equipment and a guide with a wealth of knowledge not only about Nara but Japan as a whole. Highly recommend.

Thank you for your review. Our guides are well trained, but they're also passionate about Japanese culture and history, which we think is better than having just knowledge. Join us again anytime!

The best way to see Nara! We were able to quickly go from location to location and saw a lot more than if we had gone on foot. Our guide Kalin was very knowledgeable and it was great that he was fluent in both English and Japanese. Highly recommend taking this tour.

When I asked them about our departure time weeks before our trip, I was told that it is at 9:30 during weekdays and was advised to come 15 minutes early. Our tour was a Monday so we went there at 9am (we don’t want to be late!). We ended up on a lot with no sign whatsoever that says “Nara Cycle tours”, just a grey container and what appears to be a parking lot next to a Fundoshi Kitchen. We quadruple-checked the address but it pointed at the same spot so we got confused. I messaged the tour operator and after some waiting time, I got a reply from Remi. Turned out, our trip fell on a Japanese national holiday, which changes the departure time to 10:00! After a long wait for our guide, we finally started the tour a few minutes after 10:00.

The bike trip itself was great! It’s definitely a lesser stressful way of getting around Nara’s famous spots. There were many uphills and narrow streets but the downhill counterparts were a breeze. I find it part of the experience so it was fine.

Kalin, our tour guide, was very friendly and shared his knowledge about the different spots we visited, plus was kind enough to take photos for us. He also showed us how to properly feed the deers.

I would’ve given this a 5* but the time wasted in the beginning was just a bummer. We’ve been to other trips via Trip Advisor and the operators normally send us a message before the trip for special information or changes.

Please put up a sign outside your place! Even a laminated note would be fine. Don’t leave us wondering if we are at the right place or not. Also, please do check the actual date when a customer asks what the departure time is, if it’s a holiday or not, and not simply say a generic response. Would save everyone headaches.

Thanks Kalin for the wonderful trip! We did enjoy the tour!

Thank you very much for booking our tour and coming early. We are truly sorry for the inconvenience you had before starting due to a schedule issue on our side. We are working on a sign at the moment to set it at our bike location to avoid any future confusion. We are glad to know you liked the tour and will keep doing our best for our future guests. Thank you very much for your review. Enjoy the rest of your trip! Regards.

By far the best way to explore Nara, its highlights in a comfortable way. Friendly and wise guide Kalin knows the places and background and the bikes are brand new. We enjoyed it very much, and owner Remi organized this -late- booking without a hassle. For us a must see/do and the best way to get around. Close to Nara JR station, look for the silver container (see pics). I am sure Remi will put a logo on it soon 🙃

Went on tour w/Remi and was a little stressed about route/roads/bikes. (But) The bikes were easy to ride. Am used to my racing cycle(Canyon) but the tour cycles had fat tires and plush seats. Our tour giude (Remi) was easy going (thx Remi) and made ride fun. The backroads are really the best/only way to really see Nara. Lots of rice fields and traditional house. Much more rural than Kyoto. Will take wife next time because she likes cycling w/out stress.
