The city of Nara is located south of Kyoto and is one of the most important tourist destinations in Japan. This city was the capital of Japan from 710 to 784 AD. Todaiji Temple was built at the same time by Emperor Shomu and holds the title of the largest wooden temple in the world. This building is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The city of Nara is located in a region with good climate. There are many parks and green spaces around the city, and the most famous of them is the Todaiji Temple. In the area of the park and especially around the temple, there are a number of deer who are used to the existence of humans, and this has caused more tourists to come here to visit. Children buy special crackers for 200 yen, feed them and have fun petting them. Deer are also used to thanking Japanese people. It seems a little strange, but they bow and thank in their own way by bowing their heads and necks. The entrance fee of this temple is 600 yen and it takes at least one hour to visit the inside of the temple and one hour for the outside area and park. In the main hall is the main 15-meter Buddha statue called Daibutsuden along with two other Buddha statues.

Famous temple that's often advised as one of the top places to visit if you are in Kansai prefecture. This is the first time we've visited even though we've been in Nara several times before. The architecture and stature of this temple is magnificent. Those who enjoy visiting temples would like this one.

Inside Todaiji is one of the worlds largest Buddha statues. This one called Vairocana Buddha is 15m high, your ticket to the temple gives some astounding statistics about the statue. It is cast in bronze and plated in gold. It was consecrated in 752. The building around it has burnt down a bouple of times. The building is 33% smaller than the first one.

The best Temple in Nara, hands down. This is truly a magnificent temple that evokes the memories of the famed Kamakura Buddha Statue and Sensoji Temple in Asakusa, Tokyo. This temple kind of combines the atmosphere of both. The huge Buddha statue here is as spectacular as the one in Kamakura, however being indoors, it gives it a more unique and personal vibe.
It would be great if the temple authorities accept payment by credit card or IC cards like Suica as I had to walk back 1.5km to find a 7/11 atm and get yen in cash to pay for entry at the temple.

The temple from the outside is very impressive to look at due to its sheer size. However when you first enter and see the Giant Buddha there is real wow factor and you just stand there and admire. Although this is a very popular attraction there is lots of space to walk around due to its size. A absolute must see.

Understanding what this place was took time but it is the area and streets and some shops to one side of the Todaiji Temple. As you walk beyond the temple and approach the February and March Houses or Temples there are streets and some old-fashioned shops. It was interesting old area and worth a look and free of deer and most of the tourists. For those that are interested Keidai means "Inside the Temple"and Cho means town.

The place do seems crowded most of the time - but there's a reason for it. The old temple is huge both inside and outside - worth going if interest in the cultural heritage
