Sarusawa Pond is somewhat romantic. I enjoyed walking around this area. Been here many times. My favourite time to be in this place is during autumn. Don't miss this one.

Monkey Pond

This is just a pond. Nothing special. Not even a big pond.
A pathway that runs around the pond. Benches located on the pathway.

That being said, it is a nice place to sit and rest.

We ended up staring at the lake for an hour after walking all morning.

Not a must-see. You probably will come across this pond since it is located near the park at the end of the main drag.

Let's just sit and gaze outward.

I visit the pond regularly. Sit with friends Drunk on wine or beer. Peering at all the touristas passing by. One wonders from whence they come. Hoping they return to their homes, sooner than not.

Turtles!
Nov 2019 • Solo
This is a lovely spot to just sit and watch the wildlife here. Plus it makes for a welcome rest area after traipsing around all that beautiful Nara has to offer. I saw loads of different birds, fish and turtles. Lovely!

Around the corner you can buy fresh mochi and takoyaki too.

Nice place to sit away from the main drag of shops
Nov 2019
Still jet lagged, I rested here after walking around the Kofukuji temple complex just above and north of the water. I fell asleep on the grass and enjoyed this tiny spot with it's view of the pagoda on a couple more occasions passing through the area.

Point for relaxation
Nov 2019
The pond was near to the shopping street and served as a good relaxation area after the long visit to the Park and temple grounds.

Small Pond In Town
Sep 2019
This was a relatively OK pond close to the main shopping street in Nara. It was well maintained around the perimeter of the pond but the water had a greenish tinge which was suspect. Not the greatest place in Nara but better than no pond.

Relax after a day walk
May 2019
It was a long, hot and tiring day after visiting Nara Park and temples. Rested here before heading back to the train station. It was busy on weekends but people just rested here before moving on to their next destination.

Beautiful
Apr 2019 • Solo
This is a really beautiful setting- there are row boats on the lake and it is really pretty especially in cherry blossom season.

Featureless Pond
Mar 2019 • Friends
Perhaps it was too cold when I visited but there was no sign of life here. No turtles or fish in sight. Much of the 5-storey tower of Kokufuji was obscured by tall trees that grew around it. However, this pond serves as a good landmark for the start of a walk in the Naramachi old quarter of Nara.
