I booked the sushi making class online through Trip Advisor. When we turned up, the sushi school had no record of our booking and they were closing up for the day.
No one really spoke English so it was very difficult to explain the situation. The people at the sushi school were incredible sorry and very apologetic. They were willing to reschedule the class for later, unfortunately we did not have time. They refunded the money back to us in Yen (we paid TA in £) which wasn’t ideal but it was useful. I hope Trip Advisor have refunded the school directly.
This review is not based on the sushi making class but on the very nice lady at the school who seemed so embarrassed about the situation.

Advise to all people who want to book through this school, try and book direct through their website!

My son (10 years) and I took part in a basic lesson of this sushi class. It was an excellent experience - we made different pieces of nigiri-sushi - both fish and vegetarian. Our lecturer was Mr. Okaji - he managed us to do really nice and tasteful sushi (see picture). We spent really nice time there - in a very friendly and family-like atmosphere. I can really recommend this experience !

LETS ENJOY!
Being a Japanese food lover, coming to Japan and learning this simple and fun way of making sushi was a great experience for us.

Sinsei Teru was just amazing in his approach in teaching with another lady Sinsei. Credit goes to both for giving us such amazing experience.

Oh! you also get a certificate presented by himself the famous chef & owner of the school, Sinsei Yasu. The school also caterer for JAL first class meal.

Not only do you get to learn and have fun, what you make is what you eat. There goes your search for one lunch.

A must try for all who are in Nara, Japan.

I had lunch with my kids at Umemori sushi school. The staff were very welcoming and they provided great hospitality. They had halal menu for us. The sushi was fresh and they customised a chicken dish for the kids. Impressive! The staff, Teru speaks good English and was warm. They also had a prayer room for us. Kudos!

A great, immersive educational and social experience. The staff are super friendly, and the class itself was fun as well. The extra steps that the staff takes to ensure a memorable, excellent experience makes it even better. They provided photos to commemorate the experience, chef jackets to make the experience authentic, and of course, the food was high quality as well. Would recommend coming here for those who are in the area! (special thanks to Midori- our super enthusiastic, friendly, caring instructor! )

My girlfriend and I had a lesson with Shiba on our visit to Nara. She was very fun and a great teacher. We had a great experience learning how to make sushi and the class ended with an awesome meal for us to enjoy along with super cute pictures for us to take back with us! Thank you Shiba!! Nara is an amazing city <3

We were so happy we found this amazing sushi lesson in the JR Nara station. It was very easy to get to and because we booked a late afternoon lesson, it meant we had time to explore beautiful Nara and try to make friends with the deer!

The lesson was so fun especially when we had to put on our sushi chef costumes!

Delicious sushi at the end (made by our own fair hands!) I'm still waiting for my boyfriend to make some again now we're home! Well worth the money!
