周辺には幾つもの寺院が立ち並んでいます。多くが日蓮宗系の寺院ですが、"正明寺"だけが天台宗のようでした。日中の山門は閉じられていましたが、山門横の通用口は開いていたので境内への出入りは可能でした。山門前に"不滅のともしび"とある石碑が立っており天台宗寺院である事を主張しているように思えました。本堂は比較的新しい建物のように見えました。因みに山号は"姫路山"とありました。

天台宗の寺院で山号は姫路山。その昔は今の姫路城がある姫山にあったそうです。昭和２０年の姫路大空襲の際に、中門と庫裏の一部を焼失。今の山門のある場所が昔の中門のあったところ。境内には墓所もありました。

天台宗姫路山正明寺。歴史のある寺院です。1143年に開基、姫山公園にあったそうです。赤松貞範が築城時に山下にと移転を繰り返し、池田輝政の築城時に現在地に落ち着きました。県指定の正明寺の板碑を見たかったのですが、当日は入れませんでした。また行きたいと思います。
