Saw the Visitor Center on my way out of the station and thought I'd drop by. They have free English language maps of Himeji, useful if you're planning a full day visit of the city. Staff spoke English as well. Friendly too.
Right at the exit from the train station. Lots of free maps, brochures. Very good English spoken. Great advises about places to visit, connections. Free postcards of Himeji Castle. Free bikes offered. Well worth a stop on arrival.

As you leave Himeji JR Station, west exit, the tourist information center is on your left, just before exiting the terminal. Very knowledgeable ladies and good English also. I am sure they get the same question hundreds of times, how to get to the castle....More
Very helpful....once they open at 9am. You can pick a map when they are closed but it's in Japanese. If you get to the castle early there is an information tent with an English guide/map to the city. Very useful.
