Streets of Tokyo

What’s the Story?

Follow the footsteps of famed streets photographers such as Tatsuo Suzuki or Daido Moriyama and shoot the wildlife of the Tokyo jungle. Vivid colors, funky fashion, and friendly street life await you in Harajuku and Shibuya, the center of youth culture in Tokyo.

What We’ll Shoot

Get out of your comfort zone and get close to the locals on this street photography workshop. Learn how to shoot in the chaos of Tokyo’s crowds and get confidence in approaching strangers and shooting candid photos in public. You’ll also be coached on various composition techniques that will enhance your photos, such as creatively utilizing reflections and contrasting light.

Where We’ll Explore

We will start in Harajuku and dive into the masses of people on Takeshita street. Seeking a respite from the chaos, we’ll explore a hidden shrine and garden, before heading back into the crowds of Omotesando. Finally, we will venture on to Shibuya and explore its back alleys and hidden districts such as Nonbeiyokocho (Drunkard’s Lane).

Review of: Tokyo By Night
I had seen some many photographs of Tokyo's neon lights and glitter but never seen managed to go visit these places whenever I was in Tokyo on a layover. Earlier this month, I booked one. Charles, met me outside the Odakyu Department Store at 7PM. For the next two and half hours or so, I learned a lot from him and had so much fun using the tripod (Which I never used in the past) We started at an overpass in Shinjuku, and stopped at six places. Ending our exploration in Shibuya Crossing. Definitely, this was the highlight of my layover in Tokyo this trip. I learnt a lot of small tips from Charles. I recommend one to anyone who visits Tokyo and has a manual mode camera.

I had the pleasure of a totally bespoke tour of the back alleys of various parts of nighttime Tokyo with EYExplore professional Charles. I can't praise this experience enough. Firstly, Charles is an experienced photo pro with a complete knowledge of the art and a huge arsenal of tips and tricks he readily shares. Having been a shooter for years, I can honesty say I learned a lot from Charlie. Second, after a discussion of what I was looking for image-wise, Charles put together a fantastic tour starting in my hotel lobby in Shinagawa where we met and then we hit a TON of off-the-beaten-path areas with fantastic photographic appeal. From tiny back alleys to marketplaces, to above-the street perspectives and unique rainy night opportunities. Lastly, the tour was thorough. We trained and walked for hours, had great conversations and Charles' quirky sense of humor kept it lively the whole time. I was happily exhausted at the conclusion lat in the night. I will totally book another bespoke tour on my next visit.

Charles easily adapted to us having iPhones instead of (the recommended) stand alone cameras. Took us to some great sites perfect for unique shots of Tokyo at night, and taught us more about our iPhone cameras’ capabilities in the process. Had a great and memorable time...even in that Tokyo alley! Highly recommend it!!!!

Review of: Temples of Tokyo
Charles was incredibly helpful during our tour and we learnt a lot from this experience. Don't confuse the stone Torii gates for the white ones (where the meeting point is), we did this and nearly missed our photo tour, as we were the only people on the tour EYExplore were accommodating, we were able to resume the tour, despite being late. If temples are on your list of things to do in Tokyo, consider booking this, you'll see great temples, and you'll learn a thing or two to improve your photography.
