About City Unscripted Tokyo
Some people live in a city, some people live for the city. They are curious about where they live, and never want to stop exploring, and discovering the hidden gems that - to the uncurious mind - remain hidden. City Unscripted believes you should see the city with these people, and so we connect curious travellers with equally curious hosts. We exist to give travellers truly personal connections to cities, offering an alternative to the old, predictable world of tour guides. With a network of 1400+ hosts in 40 cities across the world, City Unscripted personally matches each guest to the right host, who creates an experience personalised just for them. This way, no two experiences are the same. The hosts are here to be the guests’ open-minded, passionate and knowledgable friend who can’t wait to show off their home. The service is trustworthy, safe and secure as each host is individually verified, who always check in with their guest before each experience to understand their needs.

Kento is most definitely the perfect guide for late night adventures around Shinjuku. Highly personable with an enquiring mind and a lot of fun , I’m sooooo glad I stumbled into one of his tours . If a traveller wants to get to know the Golden Gai area , this is most definitely your man . The meal before was wonderful and somewhere I would never have discovered by myself - and cheap as ! This is the real thing , with a brilliant guide .

I had a 9 hour layover in Narita, and I considered exploring Tokyo for a little bit on my own. Oh my goodness, I am glad I didn't! Even with some experience as a solo traveler, I would have never made my way around Tokyo. Chantal was a gift! She showed me a sweet local market on the edge of Tokyo, and then into the heart of the city for a quick peek and a sushi lunch. She was able to communicate on my behalf because I don't speak Japanese. I wrongly assumed Tokyo would be English language friendly. It is not. She was also great about answering my questions, talking about local custom, sharing about her home life, and even turned my shopping into a learning experience by telling me about the pottery and designs I was looking at. I think Chantal made the most of what we did, but I don't feel like I got much of a flavor of the city. I kinda wish I had done a food tour or bus tour instead. I'm not sure if I gave carte blanche for City Unscripted to fully design a tour would have been better, or did more research and was very specific about what I wanted to do or see in the short time. Any which way though, if you do not speak Japanese, I would say that having a guide is almost a must. I was very grateful to have Chantal!

Giovanni arrived on time and knowing I had knee problems, came with some supports to help with all the walking we had to do. The supports were very helpful. As this was our first visit to Japan he managed to show us various facets of the Japanese way of life. During the day we were shown old and modern Tokyo. He introduced us to the complex metro system which stood in good stead for the rest of our stay. All in all we found him to be informative and attentive. We would definitely use this company again.

We had to cancel our tour due to the latest travel restrictions but I wish to make a special mention to Anna who was prompt and professional in replying to us with our unforeseen cancellation. Offered a refund immediately and quickly issued a confirmation email, as well as offering 20% off voucher for the next time we use their service which hopefully is not far away.

Our Japanese guide, Izumi, took us to all the hot spots of Tokyo in 4 hours! It was hard keeping us on track because there is so much to see. Since she is a professional photographer, she knew what to view and where to best view it. She was so pleasant and found us the most amazing shop in which to buy kimonos and hapi coats. Her photography was amazing. She also does a Toyko Photo Tour that gives you professional photos. Thanks Izumi!!!
