When in the city the shrine is worth a visit. Most shrines have the same layout and still are different in a hard to describe way. We enjoyed walking the grounds and observe the worshippers.

Japan is one of the most advanced country and technological advancements can make you feel dumbfounded however it is also a traditional society and shrines are part of those traditions. This shrine is quite a place, very near to Utsunomiya Station, one can spend time...More

Located right in the middle of Utsunomiya's main city strip and surrounded by office buildings and shops, lies this gem. There's a massive Torii gate right at the front so you can't miss it from the street - scale the steps and reach the temple...More

A nice place to visit after shopping downtown. The plaza down from the shrine is always used for all kinds of fun events.

The shrine has a nice looking entrance, there is a relatively steep set of stairs up to the main shrine. The shrine itself is good looking and very peaceful.

The small city is abt.50min away from Tokyo by Shinkansen and a good destination for a half day or even full day trip. You could enjoy some great dumplings or explore some sights. This temple located on a hill is worth to visit.

It's a small shrine located 20 min walk from JR station. There is a park nearby where you can go for a walk. Little taste of Japan. If you like this kind of stuff. You better take the local train to nikko. It's beautiful there

I visited this shrine on the course of taking a walk. Climbing the steps to lead to the shrine is maybe somewhat tiresome, but it is a good exercise.

When you are in Utsunomiya, you have to take at least the five minutes it takes to run up the stairs and see this shrine. It is actually in the city, so very easy to access. And then you can check off one more shrine...More
