As four English people stood in a long queue to get in here, it was nice that the priest asked us where we were from and gave us a few instructions when entering the temple of the crying dragon. When we entered another priest beckoned us to the right hand side as he spoke in Japanese to the crowd and then, again, turned to us and gave us some English highlights. The acoustics are amazing as the sound under the dragons face has a different echo to the rest of the room. You are then told of the 12 deities representing the star signs and the priest had a printed sheet so you could find your birth year and the animal that represented it. One of my group was overwhelmed by this and needed a walk alone to gather herself. Amazing.

Yakushido is part of the Rinnoji Temple. The inside is special because of the acoustic and the ceiling! Check the details.

This building is also a part of Rinnoji temple. You can take off shoes and go inside. But usually there are many visitors, and the number of visitors is controlled at the entrance. What is famous in Yakushido is “Nakiryu”, or crying dragon, a painting on the ceiling. The staff explains and demonstrates an acoustic effects of the building.

"Yakushido" is very peculiar in its acoustics, as the monk will demonstrate when you are in the main hall and he'll strike two sticks in various places, but only when being exactly under the dragon's head, you'll ear a peculiar vibration as the dragon is roaring.
