I walked here all the way from Lake Chuzenji. It was pretty enough to gaze upon - the white snow on the flat field. There's fencing around some of it to keep out the pesky deer. It's overlooked by some impressive mountains.

Visited Nikko during Oct and it was a perfect timing where it's Autumn and the leaves were turning yellow and red. We tried to avoid traffic jam, as Nikko will be crowded with tourists especially during weekends, so we departed very early in the morning. We started the morning hike from Odashirogahara field and then continued to the Senjogahara field. The walk was so picturesque and relaxing with the marshland, the trees all painted in autumn colors, and the morning breeze and sunshine made the walk a very pleasant one where we didn't even feel the tiredness.

Plenty of tourists only visit Senjogahara field as it's more easy to access, but if you have the time, Odashirogahara is a hidden gem that worth for a detour. One can take a short bus ride from Akunuma Tourist info center to the hike start point of Odashirogahara Field.

We went from Nikko to lake Chûsenji by bus and then had an some hours hike from Lake Chûsenji to lake Yomoko. The nature is changing all over the year but especially beautiful during autumn when the leaves were turning yellow and red. Be sure to have a GPS or smart phone with you to find your way.

It takes about one hour to travel and after reaching this spot, you can travel through the other side of this area to the opposite end.
Autumn is really wonderful and keep one full day to explore.

Odashirogahara is a flat and open marshland, much like Senjogahara. It forms part of the smaller walking trail and can be combined with Senjogahara to form a much bigger hiking trail.

The views during autumn in October are magnificent. As the whole area is open, it can get pretty chilly during evening closer to sunset so bring along a few extra layers to keep warm.

went here in 1st November last year and autumn foliage almost over. but still has lovely view. after trekking about 2 hours, found a place for sightseeing with big table and met people who had picnic there. This place is rather famous for people around here and locals. Met two grandmas that came from neighbor town by walking. We were in awe and they said 'it's obaa-san tachi power!' while smiling happily.

Some great walking in the Nikko area, with some stunning scenery certainly when we visited in Autumn. Some fantastic photo opportunities.
