If you want to see the autumn leaves, I can't recommend Lake Chuzenji enough. The area is beautiful, and really relaxing. Just a warning though, autumn is a popular season for Lake Chuzenji, so the weekends can get really crowded, and create terrible driving times.

I went there in October, 2009, with friends. It is an awesome place if you love boating. Water of lake is very clean. Boating facilities are also very good. You can hire a boat for 30 minutes. Go and enjoy your ride :)

If you come to Nikko for a day trip, you'll have to make the decision as to whether you visit this area, or the shrines/temples area, I think it's a bit of a rush to try and do both areas in one day. I had...More

Yes, it is super cold and windy this time of the year but the lush of the red, gold and green color of the trees surronding the lake makes it all worth it. It is a lake ON the mountain areas. a beautiful give by nature.
