Fully agree with Rie's Dec.2017 review. I day-tripped from Nikko on a heaving bus but almost all opted for other sights. I used the boat - with English commentary - to reach the villa, then walked the pleasant 1.5 miles back to the town centre for the return bus. The sun was out, the sky clear & the views were stunning. The setting, whilst having my tea & scones could not, for me, have been bettered. In addition to that, there's much (in English) info, photos etc displayed about the villa's creation & its diplomat creator: I found this most interesting. It's several degrees cooler at Chuzenji than Nikko, especially on the lake, so dress accordingly.

This attraction is very near the Italian Embassy on Lake Chuzenji, both of which are a good walk from the center of the town. The walk, while along the lake is not particularly pretty and there is not much to do on the walk. As much as I enjoy exploring and walking, we didn't find this worth the trip.

Go get the combo ticket and visit this place and the Italian villa next door. Sit by the corridor to enjoy the scenes, relax and chill at this beautiful lake side setting.

Nikko area can be really crowded with lots of people, so it is nice to take a peaceful walk along the Lake Chuzenji to this villa. It is full of interesting and historically important photos and displays. There is a nice cafe if you want to relax with English tea and scones. The lake is beautiful and lots of photo opportunity as well. Enjoy the peace and quiet. For more, you can look at "hiddenjapanguide" for details.

We did not know what to expect when we decided to walk around Lake Chuzenji to this park. When we approached the restored British Embassy Villa, it looked like a simple black building. Entering the building, the views from the veranda of the lake and surrounding mountains were absolutely breathtaking. The villa was built by Ernest Satow during the Meiji period, and the historical information about him and his family was very enlightening. One leaves with greater appreciation of international relations and diplomacy. Also recommend having tea and the best scones on the second floor. The Italian Embassy's former villa is also part of the park.
