The history behind this cemetery is amazing. Its located above Motomachi Shopping street. You can actually take a elevator located in the Motomachi train station, it will take you to the top of the station which is a small park and walk up the hill to what they call the "Bluff" It's the area of Yokohama that was given to... The Yokohama Foreign General Cemetery is located just above Motomachi on the Bluff. It has graves of foreigners who lived and died in Yokohama since the middle of the 19th Century. The paths are well preserved and the cemetery very green. From Spring to Summer the cemetery is open on weekends (Y200 donation) for tourists to walk a set course... More

This is cemetery dates back to the 1870s and the gravestones tell a fascinating story of international marriages, Western imperialism, and early globalization. We wandered around reading the gravestones for several hours and felt it was far more informative than any of the several museums we had visited.

It's pretty amazing that someone would actually rate a cemetery as something to do but this one in Japan is incredible. The area itself, Yamate, is awe inspiring and there's even a public pool in the grounds.
