Our attentive guide, Noriko Nakayama, took us to Yokohama's Chinatown. It is one of the largest Chinatowns outside of China. The most impressive, yet ostentatious, structure is an ornate temple at the top of steps.
We were met with enthusiasm by the Temple's director, Johnson Wei, who has a Hawaii connection. He says he attended Hawaii Pacific University and loved his time there. We were happy to speak to a local who spoke English fluently. He was happy to reminisce with us his Hawaii days.

This temple, in commemoration of the Chinese general and god of war Guan Yu, is perhaps the most ornate among all. At the heart of Yokohama's vibrant Chinatown, it is an impressive structure with colorful Chinese decorations. Do make a visit when around the area to experience its grandeur in person.

This brightly coloured Chinese temple is a key location in the heart of Yokohama's Chinatown district. Vivid colours and intricate carving adorn this magnificent building. The interior is equally stunning. Informative and friendly guides.

a great example of typical Chinese Temple. Free to wander around and look no pictures inside but aloud outside

Yokohama Chinatown, a colourful and vibrant town. Within it, is the amazing temple that stands out among the rows of shop houses. A majestic sight yet serene place to be in. Recommended for those who wishes to spend some quality time with your inner faith.

Located in Chinatown this was one of the finest examples of ornate architecture and brilliant coloured temples we saw in Japan. The decorations, rooflines, and pillars are all impressive. It is very well maintained and still well used and popular with worshipers. It is interesting to note the differences in Buddhism between Japan and China.

It is easily found in Chinatown. We went at night and it was a good choice. Looked a bit more exotic than in the day time. Yokohama is so clean, and so organized, this is a bit more like the rest of Asia. Interesting place to go. Even late at night there were lots of people in the temple.

This is a very colourful temple in the heart of Yokohama Chinatown. We were there early on a Saturday morning. There were only a couple of people there doing the cleaning, and we were not allowed to go inside. But it is pretty impressive from the outside, anyway. I love all the decorations on the roof. If you are walking in Chinatown then definitely take a look at this temple.

This was a lovely temple to find as we walked the busy streets of Yokohama's China Town. While it can get a bit crowded, the steps out front seemed to be popular with everyone for photos. It really is a quick stop on the much grander adventure that is China Town, but definitely not one to miss!
