Garden with a difference

Having seen a few Japanese Gardens already, this one comes with a difference as the buildings here are more European style. Wouldn't say it looks very Italian though.

If you go to Kamakura in June, you might feel stress to see so many visitors to see hydrangea and temples. Yamate Italian Garden is quiet, less crowded place. This garden is small but relaxing. You can take a rest at tearoom at Diplomat's house.

It's was a nice garden. Roses and good arrangement. Not too elaborate but worth passing through if you are in the Yamate area. Nearby there is good viewing across the Bay and the Foreigners Cemetery.

From the gardens of the Italian Garden there are lovely views over Yokohama. A cup of tea or coffee and cake is available in the little cafe and the old house is lovely to stroll through. One time I visited there was even an ikebana display.

It's only a three-minute uphill walk from JR Yamate station. In the garden there are two fancy houses recently moved and reconstructed in this garden. Uchida House of a Diplomat was recently moved and reconstructed but the house fits the garden so well as if it had been originally facing the garden. Bluff #18 adjacent to the Uchida House is...
