This is the peak point of the Hakone circular tour cable car trip. This is not much of a museum, but the place is geothermally active with smoke coming from the ground. Black eggs, supposedly boiled by the volcanic mud, are sold (I am not...More

A small museum but small entrance fee, was just 100 yen, the illustrations and working models are good, they explain in Japanese and English the geology of the area. It is suitable for the young and old.

The museum is not large, but it presents its content quite impressively. It makes you shiver a little to learn the history of the volcano you are currently standing upon.

Even if you are not into museums this is worth a stop. You will learn that the Onsen hotsprings water is artifically made, and how it is done, as well as learn about the geology of the area.

Small museum at The Owakudani stop on the Hakone Ropeway. 100 yen and it will explain what you see outside in the sulphur fields in a fun interactive way. Microscope samples, working models, interactive experiments. 20-30 minutes to walk through.

The museum can be done in around 30 minutes but is nevertheless worth a visit. At the price of ¥100 per person it is practically free (someone on this site said that with the Hakone free pass entrance IS free, but this is incorrect) and...More
