This is a wonderful group of contemporary buildings that offers a creative space for visitors to try their hand at crafting their own jewelry, pottery and glassware etc It is also a great area to view finished products for purchase. The craft house is located in a lovely woodland setting within Gora park . One would be tempted to try pottery or creating a glass product if you were staying in the area for a longer duration. Better to purchase a finish product that you can take with you.

Gora Park isn't too special, but the Craft House here is probably its highlight if you like learning how to make Japanese crafts. They offer a variety of crafts, such as glass blowing and pottery. Most require you to make a second trip out here to pick up your finished product.

The Hakone Craft House is conveniently located in the lovely Gora Park (see separate review). . Beside looking
at exhibited art crafts like beads jewelry , various glass artifacts and pottery , you can join classes in the complex and learn to prepare art work by yourself . The Craft House offers a very pleasant , cool and inviting atmosphere , although it can be somewhat crowded (with kids and grown-ups .
Mind you : There are entry fees to the Gora Park , or free for Hakone Free Pass holders .

They ship items overseas. It cost me AU$150 for EMS. The craft was worth $400. I was told to wait for 2~3 months. I waited for 2.5 months before giving them a call. I was told to wait a bit longer, but by the time the parcel was already sent back to Japan and lost. I complained that they should have notified me when the parcel was shipped, with a tracking number and estimated delivery date. Their response was that "it wasn't their responsibility" and that "they did not discuss or agree to send a notification. " ...very disappointing service and arrogant response from Craft House.

Experience is the best souvenir. Craft house is a dream place where you can do pottery wheel, pottery handbuilding, glass blowing, and lampwork beads. They have trainers to assist and teach you all of these artworks. Though it comes with a price, the overall experience is worth it! The place is well equipped with the right tools. Even the glass blowing is safe for the kids to try. You can get to take home your finished products though some of them requires you to come back after a day or two. Shipment to your own country is available too. The staff are the friendliest. Their main concern is for you to get the most out of your experience. They are there to make their craft known more than anything else. We will never forget our experience in Craft House. Should we come back to Japan, one of our stops will definitely be Craft House.

Note that, although this isn't mentioned on any websites we could find, you must pay for entry to the park in order to visit the Craft House.

Having walked around the park we popped into the Crafthouse and took to the glass blowing class. A very enjoyable experience and hands on. They do ship items home for you but there is a charge which varies and it is risky. We had our pieces shipped to our last hotel, they arrived very well packed and intact and are now at home. Worth it.

Thank you for sharing your review with us. The staff and I would like to thank you for choosing our place during your precious time here. I'm glad to hear that. We would recommend trying pottery for your next visit. Our warm hospitality awaits your return sometime soon.

Located in the Gora Park (no admission fee if you have the Hakone Free Pass), the shop sells local crafts & typical souvenirs along with offers of workshops in bead-making and glass etching. We didn't try the etching, but did do the bead-making workshop which was fun but over-priced! We ended up paying almost $100 (cad) for 2 small beads which we made into a key chain & a purse charm - items we could have easily bought for less than $15 in any Japanese market. Ah well - I guess we have the advantage of saying we made it ourselves :)

Inside Gora Park is the Crafthouse which is worth a visit. You can make crafts or buy them. They had glass blowing, glass etching, glass bead making, beading and pottery. The instructors are very helpful and the items are reasonably priced. While you wait there is a lovely coffee shop and beautiful gardens to explore

Unfortunately I did not have time to try any of the glass blowing, sand blasting, or ceramic making workshops. I had a lot of fun looking at other people do that, however. And the gift stores are full of lovely handmade items.
