This is a once in a lifetime thing to do if you ever want to drive your JDM dream car. Mine being the AE86 from Initial D and I was able to get a chance to check out and drive the vehicle on some of the touges from the anime featuring the car.
Although the AE86 was a little tricky to get used to at the start compared to what I normally drive, I got better driving it as the tour progressed. Overall, going down the Hakone Turnpike, going up the Tsubaki line, and all these other touges in a slow cruising tofu delivery Corolla from the 80s will be something I'll never forget. I owe it to this rental company for giving me the opportunity to get behind the wheel of my JDM dream car.
The staff were really kind, and this tour was very well coordinated. I also enjoyed having another AE86 be my main pace car when going up and down the touges in classic Initial D fashion. I did my best to keep up with it and stayed close to it in the corners lol.
Overall, I strongly recommend coming to this place.
The only negatives with this company were the security deposits we needed to submit should we have damaged the vehicle in the tour. So, I had to really take precaution and not bump into anything or go too fast and risk spinning out. So be prepared for expensive security deposits between 330,000 yen to 660,000 yen before you go. One more negative involves the drive configuration on certain vehicles like the AE86 having no power steering. Vehicles with no power steering are incredibly difficult to maneuver whenever you need to drive slow or maneuver for parking. Once you get it moving though, it's not too bad and feels like when you steer normally in your own car. You'll definitely get used to their vehicles in about an hour or 2 and if you drive up there from home if you live in Japan, you may forget how to drive your own car especially if it's a manual when it's time to leave.
Overall, a great experience and a once in a lifetime opportunity to drive your favorite JDM or Eurospec car in Japan.

It was everything I wanted it to be. I rented the FD Rx7 and drove the Ultimate Hakone Tour. Yoshi was wonderful tour guide. I am familiar with driving left hand drive and stick shift vehicles. This was my first time in a right hand drive. They started very slow to help get comfortable and picked up the pace as you like. As a big enthusiast of cars, rotary engines, initial D, and touge driving, this was the perfect experience and I cannot recommend it enough. Be sure to bring items required as mentioned in their booking instructions. The bus drops you off at their door. Very easy getting to and from my hotel in Tokyo.

Amazing experience. However we were a bit uncomfortable having to let them take a deposit of 660,000 yen in case we damaged the car. I get it but we didn’t know that before booking and we wouldn’t have been able to drive if we didn’t have that money and would have had to pay. They transferred it back straight after but it was in the back of our heads the whole time.

Went here with my Dad, and I would highly recommend it to not only car enthusiasts, but to anyone looking for a great day trip.
We took the Expressway bus as recommended from Shinjuku, and were dropped right out the front of the pick-up location. We chose the Nissan Skyline 1971 'Hakosuka' and were not disappointed.
Heavy steering, heavy brakes, heavy car. Truly authentic, and great fun to drive.
We chose the Ultimate Hakone drive, in which Nozo was our guide. The trip involves roughly 120kms of high mountain roads, narrow turns, and several scenic breaks, including one for lunch at an overlook restaurant. The whole drive takes roughly 5-6 hours depending on the pace of the drivers. In our case we finished a little earlier than the 6pm end time.
When we were all done, the team even stayed with the group while we waited for the bus back to Shinjuku station, and made sure we got the right tickets.
Next time I come to Japan, I'll definitely be visiting the Fun 2 Drive team again.

Thank you guys for an amazing afternoon on the Ultimate Hakone Drive. We drove the Honda NSX NA1 Classic and it was great fun around the touges. There were 8 cars out and as we went they gave us the chance to move up or down the order of cars based on the speed you wanted to go. The views were spectacular of Mount Fuji and Lake Ashi and the surroundings with plenty of stops. The team gave us a lift also to the bus stop once we had finished so we could get our ongoing bus. So helpful.
Harry my son now wants to come back in 3 years once he is old enough to have his driving licence! See you again soon! Thank you again.

Even as someone who isn’t obsessed with cars, the views that you see on this tour are absolutely gorgeous! Our tour guide Yoshi was excellent. He made driving on some of the more challenging sections of the roads much less nerve-wracking than they would have been if we were on our own.
I highly recommend for anyone who can get to Hakone to experience this tour, ESPECIALLY if you love cars. The highlight of my entire trip.

Fun2Drive offer such a unique experience that will never forget as long as we live. Amazing cars, great team and an iconic location.
We were able to email the team in advance to make sure we got the car we wanted and could not have enjoyed the day more. It was great to share the experience with a variety of people from all over the world who all were smiling from start to finish.
Highly recommend!

A real bummer due to poor communication from owner.
We first booked a car for 9am and day before got an email saying car needed maintenance. Then went on site and booked a different car and that evening got an email saying car not available (even tho it was available on website). Then emailed to ask what was available and no response for hours. Finally booked a car and asked for confirmation (as opposed to auto confirm as that clearly isn’t always accurate). Called and emailed multiple times from 1600 till 0855 next day and didn’t get any response until 0900 and then it was too late to arrange a taxi.
Probably a near adventure but be forewarned that communication is poor and don’t count on it actually happening. The location is far out of way so not worth going unless you have some sort of positive confirmation. Your mileage may vary

This was a fantastic experience. Previously cancelled due to covid and Japan being closed, I wondered if it would ever happen. Three years later and i finally made it. Gotemba and Hakone are such stunning areas, we were so lucky with perfect clear weather. My first day was nearly cancelled as someone crashed the car i had reserved. Please look after the fleet if you hire ! I managed to hire an alternative car and it was so much fun. The roads were amazing, the views were epic and the staff and pace cars were great. The cars speak for themselves. It was so cool cruising around with some of the finest cars Japan has to offer. The food stops we made were really good too. In the end I got to do the holy mount Fuji in the Lotus day 1, then ultimate Hakone in the RX7 day 2. Thank you to the guys at fun 2 drive for 2 amazing days. I enjoyed it so much and you guys were great hosts. Hopefully i can make it back some day !

Leave extra time when arriving, made it JUST on time on the bus. Did the Ultimate Drive and it was better than I thought it could be. I had lowered expectations as the weather forecasts for November weren't great but it was clear enough to see Fuji and I need the sunnies I didn't pack.
Drove the NSX and they had just replaced the clutch which was nice. It seems for the Hakone Ultimate Drive, the best cars are light, quick, non-turbo cars with the amount of bends. We were all having a blast but the guy in the Hakosuka seemed a step above!

Hi All,
We are considering booking Holy Mt. Fuji Drive for our visit in a few weeks, I am looking for more info, ideally from the staff or someone with first-hand experience.
1. The tours schedule on the website lists "opening" and "closing" sessions, 30 min each. What are those sessions exactly? (I am hoping for giving a US driver a chance to adapt to a right-hand-drive car and for the tour guides to size up drivers' abilities.)
2. The tour goes along legal roads/streets, not a closed course, correct? How much traffic is there and how complicated the traffic situations are we to encounter? (Again, hoping for no 5-ways intersections with all the signs in Japanese...)
3. How intense the drive overall? Let say I am an average US driver with some (but not everyday) experience with manual shift and zero driving on the left side of the road - will I get out of it alive? Soaked with sweat and hands shaking? Or is it less dramatic than that?
4. How is it for passengers with not much interest in cars/racing? A terrifying roller-coaster ride or a pleasant cruise with a great scenery?
5. The site mentions a stop at the speedway. Is this the only stop during the tour, or will it be other stops for taking a break / a gulp of water / scenic photos?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
1. To the best of my knowledge, they might get 2 groups, one goes a bit earlier than the other. I think that's what they mean.
2. Yes, all legal roads. You visit Fuji Speedway but you don't drive in the track.
3. In my opinion, it is about 90% very slow, and 10% very fast (if you are afraid a bit, you can ask to be last). I did the Mt Fuji tour, and there are around 3-4 places where you can go fast (the guide is ahead and warns you for any hazards). Also, it depends on the weather, we had fog and one or two places we had to go very slow. I think it should be ok if you used to the other side, as you are in a group and you can mimic the driver in front of you.
4. I would say it's more of a pleasant cruise with great scenery (depends on the weather, we couldn't see anything).
5. From memory, there are about 3-4 stops along the way.
All up, I really enjoyed it, and I will definitely do it again if I will be around. I actually recommend doing the longer tour as it got more intense driving (as I was told). But if the passenger is not into it, maybe not.

You stop at "Kintoki Jinja Iriguchi (or Kintoki Shrine). Right in front of the place.

I currently don't know how to drive manual transmission cars. This looks really fun though. We leave for Japan in 3 weeks so is this something I should try to book? Should I spend 3 weeks learning how to drive a manual transmission car? Does it even matter that I don't know how to drive a manual transmission car?

Hey mate, I’d probably stick to driving an auto as per other users have said, it can be a very challenging drive. You’d much rather want to enjoy the experience in an auto so you’re not stressing as much. Enjoy.

When it says “guided tour” are you the one driving the car, is there an instructor in the car or are you following the guide that’s in another car?
Khari J
7 contributions
Yes as said above you are following the guide instructor in his own car, and he makes sure to allow enough room for your own pace/give you plenty of times to open up your own car and wind it out! But everything is done via walkie-talkie and very clear and precise communication as to oncoming traffic/road obstructions

If you're taking about doing actual laps on the track, then no. You get to enter the grounds, drive around to see the circuits, stop at the stands behind the main track. You can go out to the spectators seating area though

Hello,
Me and my partner are booked to go to Fun2drive this month.
We will be leaving from shinjuku bus station and I'm now making sure I get my bus tickets beforehand and to leave in plenty of time etc after looking at posts on here.
My question is, how do I know which bus to get on? Is it obvious when you're there or do all the buses have different numbers?
Thanks

Hi,I took a cab from my hotel but all buses have numbers and destination clearly on their fronts. Also all staff in the station will be able to direct you .
The buses run on time so it’s useful to ask in your hotel as they can give you all the timetable (they check it live on internet like airport flights)

Hello.... I’m booking this for my husband and I’m struggling to choose. I was originally going with a lambo thinking I can’t go wrong but maybe I should go with a Japanese car as we are in Japan.. any suggestions?
Planning to do holy/hakone will this be long e ouch do you think? Thanks in advance!

The roads are very tight so the Lambo may be harder to drive since its wider.
Hi Guys!
I'm travelling to fun 2 drive in January, and wondering on the best way to get there from yokohama preferably.
i've looked at the location/map listed on the website, however i'm become a little bit anxious as the more i read into the location, i find conflicting issues with finding it.
Which would be better?
Taking the train to Odawara and taking private rail to Gora then getting a taxi to fun 2 drive?
Taking the bus from Yokohama Station and changing bus to get to fun 2 drive?
Travelling back to shinjuku and getting the correct bus there?
For those who stayed in the hakone area, where did you stay?
I don't want to be lost in the middle of a foreign country in the middle of winter haha!
Thanks for helping!

I'd say catch the train to odawara and then catch the bus from there. There is a bus stop not too far from fun 2 drive as they dropped myself and another couple at the stop at the end of the day so we could get back to Tokyo.

Hi All,
I have booked my Fun2Drive experience, but just unsure on best transport methods to the venue.
Will be travelling from Shinjuku & be spending a full day at Fun2Drive.
Just want to ensure best means of transport with a timetable that will accommodate a full day.
Thanks

You are in luck, I just did this single day trip 3 weeks ago by myself and I do not speak Japanese.
The least complicated way to get to Fun2Drive from Tokyo is the Odakyu Hakone Highway Bus. It's roughly ¥3,900 roundtrip.
Give yourself plenty of time. If your Fun2Drive session starts at 12:00pm noon go ahead and buy a ticket for a 9:00am bus. Technically, there probably is a 9:30am bus option available but you do not want to cut it too close. Remember, traffic can be really bad and it's not worth the risk of arriving late.
I believe one of the last buses to leaves Hakone (right in front of Fun2Drive) heading back to Shinjuku is at roughly 6:35pm. So if a day trip is your plan, purchase your return ticket for that time. If you happen to get back to Fun2Drive earlier after your drive and you are lucky you may even be able to hop on an earlier bus back to Tokyo if you are out waiting at the bus stop.
NOTE: Obviously, you will be boarding at the bus terminal in Shinjuku but technically there are TWO Kintoki Shrine stops. The first is the entrance to the Kintoki-Jinja Shrine (金時神社入口), the second is the entrance to the Kintoki Shrine Mountain Trail (金時登山口). You want to get off at the Kintoki-Jinja Shrine Entrance NOT the Mountain Trail Entrance.
Aside from that it's just a matter of buying your tickets early enough to ensure you get a seat reservation and finding the Odakyu Hakone Highway Bus terminal in Shinjuku which is about a 10 minute walk from the Shinjuku Train Station (depending on what station exit you use).
Enjoy your drive,
