If you have a half day to spare before or after your flight Naritasan is well worth a visit as a beautifully built and maintained temple that is very impressive

My husband and I visited this Temple in Narita not realising the extent of the area it covered. It’s beautiful and extremely well maintained. We walked along the old town towards what turned out to be a magnificent gateway, a Japanese gentleman was waiting for someone to come along and take his photograph for him in front of the entrance. We obliged, it was better than a selfie.
The area has many very old buildings/ Temples and it also has very peaceful garden areas. There are a lot of steps to get from the gateway to the main Temple area, not an area for someone with mobility problems. Definitely well worth a visit although not really on the tourist route. We visited it as we were staying in the area for a few days prior to leaving Japan via Narita airport.

Was able to watch Buddhist ceremony where they burn people's prayers/wishes. Ceremony happens several times a day so check web site for times. Surrounding temples are just as beautiful.

The Naritasan Shinsh-ji main gate is spectacular. It is a fitting entrance to a modern temple complex and a great destination at the bottom of the road that leads through the old village. The gate is often surrounded by trinket markets and stalls.

A must for anyone spending some time in Narita. The whole temple complex is just stunning. It is at the end of a very pretty street with lots of interesting shops.

There is a different entrance for motorists, but this is the most interesting way in for pedestrians. Both entrances support disabled people with ramps and elevators up to the main flat area between the major buildings. I really like the architecture of this building. It certainly has some detail work.

Visit the whole temple grounds and the park too. Allow at least a couple of hours. I could have spend all day or more.

The entrance to the Temple is large and imposing. It is colourful and the decorations in the woodwork are quite detailed. Take some time to check it out rather than just pass through.

Naritasan Shinshoji Temple is around 15 minutes walk from Narita Train Station. Along the way, there are lots of restaurants and souvenir shops. When reaching Shinshoji Temple, you will be welcome by the Main Gate where tourist will surely taking photo of it as it looks grand and ancient, mainly made of wood.
The temple is situated at a huge Park and the temples are build around the Park and it's quite hilly.
The view is great and you can see sakura flowers at the Park during the bloosem period.
Great place to visit when you are in Narita!

Depending on how and where you came from, this is one of the entrances / exits to the Naritasan Shinsho-ji Temple. The place is beautiful and peaceful. It is clean and well-kept. There are many stores near the area for cheap buys but be selective as there are price variations between stores that offer same or similar products. One can make wishes and buy charms or talisments here.
