Beautiful but overcrowded

Must see in Otaru. Beautiful scenery but so overcrowded it's hard to enjoy how amazing the view is. Will still recommend though.

No introduction needed for this place but if you go there during the light festival, you will see the canal being lit up plus lots of ice sculpture being lit up. Yes, you have to be there after dark but that means after 5pm . So plenty of time to enjoy the festival and get back to Sapporo by train.... More

Went there during the Snow Festival time. First, there was not enough locker for luggages in the JR station, so following the instruction at the Information desk, we found a bicycle store who can store for us with around 1000Yen per. It took us an hour to locate the store, there was no sign. Only told us it is around... More

We've to many canals including Venice & Dongdaemun, Seoul. I reckon the canal in Otaru need to be upgraded more for more attraction.

Otaru is a must visit during the Snow Festival as the locals light up individually all the candles displayed in their art pieces along alleys leading up to the Otaru Canal with floating lights on the water. It is simply amazing & the locals who regularly volunteer to work on the snow street art & roast potatoes for the guests... More

Hv been in otaru canel twice. Both time felt it is a bit exaggerated in reputation The canel is not as big and surrounded by old warehouse or factory building. Actual view doesn't match with poster. Anyway. You only need to plan half day there if you want to

We visited during the winter Snow Light Festival. The canal walk is pretty at night when the canal lights in the water resembling a lantern floating ceremony. There are also displays of ice lights along the canal walk. You just have to deal with tons of people all trying to take pictures. It's a short walk but it must be... More

It's a large drain, folks. Been there twice in as many years, but only to go eat around there... lots of food in the vicinity.

Was here on a day trip, during the day the canal is just like any ordinary canal in major cities. But during the night they have lights floating in the canal which makes it very beautiful.
