小樽祝津の鰊街道沿いに建つ明治10年代築の番屋です。
祝津地区には、状態の良いものからほとんど朽ちているものまで、北海道の鰊漁盛んなりし頃の番屋がいくつか遺されています。
こちらの前を通りかかった時は閉館されていて残念ながら外観のみの見学となりましたが、その大きな規模や軒周り、窓下の装飾的な意匠から羽振りの良かった主人と漁夫たちの暮らしが偲ばれる佇まいです。
裏手には石造りの蔵が2棟、1棟はほぼ朽ちていますが、1棟はまだしっかりと建っていました。
市の歴史的建造物に指定されており、かつては期間限定で無料で一般公開された経緯もあるので、ぜひ再公開していただきたいものです。

おたる水族館までバスに乗り、祝津港周辺を歩いている時に出会った。「番屋」と聞くとニシン漁を反射的に思い出す。説明板を読むと明治１０年代のもので、主人と漁夫の住居部分が一体になっているとのことが特徴だそうだ。この時は内部を見ることはできなかった。

ニシン漁が盛んな時代の番屋のようです。普通に入れるわけでもないようですね。たまたま小樽駅方面に行くバス停正面に有ったので建物傍まで行きました。特に勧めるものでも有りません。

旧白鳥家番屋についてお聞きしたい事があります。
旧白鳥家番屋の現在の所有者さんとお知り合いとの事ですが、その方とお話しさせて頂く事は出来ないかなと思いまして書き込みをさせて頂きました。
私は留萌出身の者です。自分のルーツを調べたくて色々と探していたらこちらに辿り着きました。
ご覧になって頂けるといいのですが…。

貴重な体験させて頂きました。
2018年中には、なんらかの形で営業開始する
見たいなので、楽しみにしてます。

網元の家とはずいぶんと豪華だ。
主人と漁夫の住まいは大屋根で一体になっている。
主人の住まいは、床の間や欄間がある。
ぜいたくな和風住宅だ。
漁夫の寝床は、吹き抜けの大部屋だ。
格差はとてつもなく大きい。

小樽から観光船で祝津まで。降りるとそこが祝津のバス停そばで、この建物があった。
横に長い建物で「指定歴史的建造物」となっていた。
このあたりは明治期のニシン漁盛んなころは活気にあふれたところだったそう。
この建物はその名残り。
多くの漁師がこの番屋に寝泊まりしてニシンをとった。
建物は良く見るとそこここに意匠が施され、かつての財力も感じられた。
ここから少し先には「ニシン御殿」も見えた。
