We ended up passing this tram car switching tower when we were wandering around the city. Interesting to see as part of transport history if passing, but not worth hiking out for especially.

I was in Hakodate for a few hours and was surprised to see one of these switch towers in Hakodate. We used to have these towers in my city when I was a little girl.

My wife and I ran across this structure on our way back to our room from the nearby onsen.
It is an old switch tower installed back in 1939 when changing traffic signals and shifting tracks for the the trolleys had to be manually. It is the last of 6 remaining from that era.
It is an odd looking building that is worth seeing if you happen to be in the area; I wouldn't go out of my way to see it, however, unless you are a street car affictionado!
