Japanese service standard has not failed me. The customer service at the Tourist information was far beyond excellent. They can speak Mandarin and English too. Knowledgeable and communicate well. Great for them to share lots of interesting information. Check them up.

I am sure you have some questions on Hakodate in mind that you like to be answered.

The staffs there were all very friendly and knowledgeable.
Asked question like:
City map.
Major tourist spots.
The best way to to up the Hakodate Mountain
Bus timetable.
One day pass that covers both the tram and bus etc.
Recommending nearby popular seafooed / Ramen restaurant.

Those answers will save you a lot of time in planning the day.
I think Hakodate point of interests can be covered in 1day or at most 2 day, if you work out an efficient schedule.

If you on a tight schedule, visiting the tourist information center is one thing you should do. The local staffs know the city the best, your guide book information can be outdated.

This tourist information is right in the Hakodate Railway Station so is very convenient after you get off the train. There was lots of staff on hand. I wanted some English brochures but didn't find any in the racks. I'm sure there'd be some had I approached the counter.

The staff speak English and are extremely eager to help. They go out of their way to explain things and also make sure that tourists understand them clearly. Probably the best information office we encountered during our stay in Japan. They even have Information Staff on the move who, when they see you looking 'lost', voluntarily approach you and offer to help.

Located at the Train/Bus station which is also where the cruise ship shuttle bus terminated. This would be an excellent choice for starting your visit to Hakodate. The available staff spoke English and were helpful in answering questions and providing maps, directions, and suggestions. There was no waiting for service when I arrived.

Located on the ground floor of the JR Hakodate train station, the center has tourist pamphlets and multilingual staff who can help you plan your way around Hakodate. The center is beside the bus station and tram stop where you can purchase one-day passes to travel around the city, and across the road from the morning market. Above the center is a restaurant floor and clean bathrooms. Visited 9/16/2017.

Conveniently located at JR Hakodate Station. A couple of shops and restaurants in the area. Few malls nearby as well.

I am a savvy independent traveler with years of global trotting experiences. Before I arrive at the destinations I usually studied the locations and logistic arrangements first. When my husband and I travelled to Hakodate last Oct. we were using JR East and South Hokkaido Flex Pass for six flexible days to use JR trains within 14 days period. For that reason I had to plan ahead how best use the same day travel to maximize the benefits of train rides that Pass allowed. When we arrived at Hakodate in the mid afternoon we had enough daylight and available trains to take to visit Onuma Koen Park which I planned to do. I searched the Hyperdia online and found suitable train schedules and since the tourist office is so conveniently located inside of the station just by the exit to the front of the building I paid my visits upon my arrival and told a staff on duty where I planned to go and would like to have information about the Park. He quickly asked me if I was going to Onuma or to Onuma Koen. I replied "koen". He said it is not the same stop as Onuma, but I didn't know it. He was very helpful and gave me the train schedules particularly for the Onuma Park. He was very informative and speaks English well enough for me to comprehend. I could have headed out to the wrong place and wasted my time for the trip if I didn't check it out with the staff in the Tourist Office. So, even though I am familiar with the train travel systems within Japan and had visited this country 7 times I shouldn't be too confident about everything I have planned. The best practice is ask the professional who are there to help and always double checked to be sure!

I had an unexpected extended stay during mid-winter at Hakodate and was staying right next to the JR station. I attended the tourist information centre on at least four occasions and every time was overwhelmed by the willingness of staff to assist me. They recommended several standard tourist activities (which I went to) and then some quite unusual out of the way options which I really enjoyed even more. Excellent English skills and they provided great information on the most economical public transport passes to purchase - as well as sold them to me on the spot.

Without a doubt this was the best tourist advice service I have received during any of my four trips to Japan.
