Tranquil repose - walking beside this lake was simply blissful on a cool morning. I wrote a separate review on the Ainu center, the scheduled performances and how to get here from Kushiro as a day trip: you can refer to this link: https://www.tripadvisor.com.sg/Attraction_Review-g298147-d2533639-Reviews-Lake_Akan_Ainu_Kotan-Kushiro_Hokkaido.html

A boat cruise around the lake is well worth it. It was cold when I went there so remember to bring warm clothes

Staying here in September. Quiet and peaceful. The hotels are clustered in an area at one end of the lake and are used as a base for skiing in the winter when I imagine the place would be packed. Seems a good place to base...More

Perhaps the best way to view the lake is to take the boat trip. Nice to feel the breeze during summer.

Another beautiful volcanic lake in Hokkaido. But make sure you don’t miss the moss balls. Very interesting. There are many things to do around the lake and a small village. Good day out

We had a hire car and drove around Hokkaido using this as it seemed a easier alternative for getting off the beaten track. However for travelling around Honshu we used the rail system without any problems.
