We were in Kushiro just for the day as it was a port stop on our cruise. The welcome we received from the local townspeople was wonderful and so unexpected. There are beautiful trees inside and local high school students instructed us how to make origami flowers for a tree they were creating for everyone who wished to participate. There was a lady that was playing the piano and encouraged people to sing along to well known American songs. So fun! Lots of shops and free WiFi ! The weather was gorgeous and it is right at the waterfront and a short walk from the cruise ship. It's a lovely glass building. When we walked along the pier 2 beautiful young ladies dressed in authentic Japanese kimonos asked if I would like to dress up, too, for a $20.00 fee and have my picture taken. It was great and so much fun. 5 Japanese ladies fussing over me to give me the royal treatment! They gave me a parasol and had a lovely Japanese scene for the pictures which were great and my family back home just loved. We definitely enjoyed ourselves at the EGG!

We are in Kushiro and staying at the ANA Crowne Plaza which was opposite the MOO

We took a shuttle bus from Kushiro Airport which stops at MOO (¥940).

It’s a quiet place with quite a few souvenir shops selling chocolates and snacks. There is also a small market selling seafood.

There are several restaurants/ cafe.

We spent less an hour and finished seeing the entire place.

A really quite deserted place. Not many people about and some outlets closed. Doesn't seem popular with locals.

The Kushiro Fisherman"s Wharf EGG is the biggest tourist attraction of Kushiro ! It is located on the river beside the port and very close to the JR station . It is a nice piece of architecture that has multi purposes : it it a public market , an arts and crafts center , a post office , a medical center , a municipal administration center , a food court with many restaurants and an interesting botanical garden with local species . That last function is housed under the round glass roof and is called the Ever Green Garden (EGG) . The day we were there there was a display of traditional dresses which could be wore by tourists , a display of origami creation and just outside the building , a demonstration of martial arts !

On the day I visited there was an exhibition of arts and crafts with public participation. Women could be dressed in Kimonos to wear while walking around. There was origami instruction and musical percussion, keyboard & string instruments. I don't know if this was put on for the cruise ship's passengers or was a regular city event. Attendees were enjoying themselves.

Was in Kushiro on a weekday and it was a holiday hence the town was quiet and a bit empty. There were more people and things to do at the Fisherman's Wharf.
