This is my 4th visit to Hokkaido. One of the best meals I had was surprisingly at this roadside station beside the Chitose Salmon Aquarium and Park. I had stopped by this place for lunch during my drive to Shin Chitose airport. The butadon (pork rice bowl) and the bowl of pork and leek noodle soup from the same shop was extremely good and delicious. The soup curry was fantastic as I had the option of having a tasty prawn broth soup curry. Other options I did not try were chicken or salmon broth soup curry. The ice cream shop was the most popular among the students who were visiting the aquarium. However the ice cream is ordinary, you can get much tastier vanilla soft serve ice cream at the airport or elsewhere. Unexpected find !

Came here after a visit to the Salmon aquarium. Looks like a child friendly rest stop. Has a small food court, some cart stalls and a little local produce food and fruit shop. Has places to sit, eat and rest and has clean rest rooms and wifi. Only worth coming if you are at the aquarium.

Expected that I would be exposed by whole thing salmon here. But turned out I was wrong. There's actually quite a bit variety of attractions inside. Aside from Salmon, you also get to see many fresh-water creatures. And not only fish, you can also see those crustaceans type and electric eel! You can even try to fish some of those crustacean thingy (sorry I forgot the name!) My favourite part is where they show you the informative video of Salmon's life journey. They have it both in English and Japanese, so don't worry! Also the part where you can see Chitose river from the window and that you are actually under the river, wow! I guess this place is not only fun for kids but also for adults.

The road station is just beside the Salmon Hometown Aquarium by the Chitose river. There are local produces and souvenirs on sale, as well as a nice little food court that serves delicious Hokkaido soup curry as well as soba and chirashi dons. The road station is very child friendly -- baby room, hot water for milk, etc. the indoor and outdoor place spaces for children are well equipped, and the rest rooms are bright and exceptionally clean. There is also a Lawson convenient store on site. Nice little place to make a stop after a visit to the Aquarium.
