If you have an early morning flight the Onsen on the fifty floor is the place to stay, for only three thousand Yen.
You can enjoy, outdoor or indoor Onsen. there are two relaxing rooms, a female only room and a mixed rest room. You can also buy meal at very cooperative prices to those in the rest of the airport.
the price for late night guest includes breakfast served form 06:00 onward.

The whole atmosphere is relaxing and helps take the strain out of travel. I highly recommend staying here....

Loved the set up, so clean and organised and even held a suitcase for us.
Asked if we had tattoos which we didn’t and then find an Asian chap with huge tattoos on one shoulder. Obviously they are fighting a loosing battle against liars and globalisation.
Terrific idea having an Onsen in an airport and I still rate Chitose as my favourite airport including Changi as my second favourite.

This is a hot spring facility (Onsen Spa) at New Chitose Airport terminal building. You can enjoy hot spring before/after flying!

Decided to spend the night at New Chitose because of a relatively early morning flight to Narita. The airport hotel/airport onsen rooms were fully booked, so I took a chance with sleeping at the "relaxing room" - and it was very pleasant.

Dianefeng gave a very helpful, detailed play-by-play review of the process, so I will just add to it rather than repeat what she already said.

Once you check in, you are expected to stay until you check out. I heard for guests staying in the hotel rooms they could leave the key and go into the airport, but since I was there as an overnight onsen user, this did not apply to me, so I ran all my errands at the airport before checking in for the night, and paid 3000JPY up front (telling them I was an overnight guest).

No reservation is necessary for onsen use during the opening hours.

They will keep your large luggage for you, as the lockers can handle only small personal bags.

Limited English is spoken at the reception, but they have a sheet of laminated information to let you know the rules and times.

You get a bag with towels and the yukata (or pajamas if you choose). These need to be returned upon check out (the small towel goes into the towel bin in the onsen, but the big towel needs to be returned in the bag). No slippers - once you are inside the onsen it is barefeet all the way.

The locker key has a number and a Japanese hiragana character in front of it. Once in the locker area you must first locate the rows of lockers matching the character, then find the number within that area.

Shower cap, tooth brush, razors, and plastic scrubby (not sure what they are called, things you scrub yourself with) are available before you enter the hotspring pool area.

The onsen is set up to handle a fairly large number of people, but there weren't too many people there so it was fairly quiet. The set up is modern, Each row for the washing area (with wooden stools and buckets rather than plastic) had a different line of product, from "no additive" to "herbal" to "heat activated"... for guests to choose from.

The hotspring is said to be good for sore muscles, and I think it works, as I did the same amount of luggage lugging on two consecutive days, and I wasn't as sore the day after I had a soak in the airport onsen. :)

There was water, coffee, and tea available for guests. If you are an overnight guests (in the rooms or just onsen) you get to pick a yukata (more choices for women), but when I was there, everyone Japanese went for the rusty orange pajamas (top and pants), and I was the only one in a yukata and got plenty of stares. Hm.

There are two "relaxation rooms", one unisex the other one women only. The unisex one has wall to wall comic books in addition to individual TV screens and comfortable seats that recline almost all the way.

The women only relaxation room has no comic books, but in addition to the TV and roomy reclining seats (and big beach towel size towels for blankets), soft lighting, the room also had essential oil piped in through the vent. Lavender, I believe. It was VERY nice! The only downside was that this relaxation room was located right next to the smoking room, so if you need to use the restroom, you must leave the lavender scented room and walk through (anywhere from a whiff to a cloud of) smokey smell in the hall way to get to the restroom.

The lighting, temperature, and the fragrance made the whole place very relaxing. It was so quiet that even when people whisper you can hear it, so as the evening went on, people came in, and you hear zippers being opened, closed, coughing, etc. People were generally courteous and quiet, but if you are a light sleeper, ear plugs and an eye mask would help a lot.

I had breakfast actually before 6 am, as I checked out at 5:45 expecting to have to wait a bit, but they told me to just go ahead and begin - and there were people there eating already. I guess since it is a buffet, once it is set up, it is ready for guests. It was nice they'd open early, though. Simple but tasty food, a good range of choices, and Hokkaido milk!!!

Overall a very pleasant experience, at an unbeatable price - and on top of it all, I could take my time getting to the airport the night before, soak in the hotsprings, have a leisurely breakfast, then head to the boarding gate.

The only down side about not having a room was not so much the lack of privacy (was not an issue), but no refrigeration, so I couldn't bring any perishables.

But FYI, many airport shops open really early, and much of the popular gifts made with Hokkaido dairy (cheesecakes, chocolate, etc) are available at the airport for purchase. But the selection for simpler dairy products (e.g. butter and cheese) are much smaller at the airport, at smaller portions as well.

very good experices, better than lots of onsen hotels( we stayed kinugawa onsen hotel near nikko, and jozankei onsen hotel near sapporo too on our july2014 trip).

at entry gate, need put shoes in a black bag-free,carry them to your locker after paying entry fee.

cost 1500 entrance fee,1500 on top if you stay overnight; you can pay 3000 at once when you enter if u r sure for overnight stay,or you can pay 1500 for entry, pay extra 1500 after staying overnight at counter when you check out-check out before 9am,otherwise overstay fee will be charge.

You can choose from about 6 different elegent flowery pattern evening gowns-free, need return to counter in the bag they give to you.

reception can speak some english, very polite.
free breakfast (very good-simple but enough-western-breads about 3 kinds,salads about 3 kinds, coffe,plus japanese rice,miso soup, hokkaido milk) time:6-9am.
towels big and small-free-some onsen hotels charge you 150 for a small towel.
they can hold your luggage for free while email inqury (we did not carry big luggage);
dinner-from 500 a bowl of noodles-we did not know this so ate outside onsen at airport cost a bit more.
tea-hot and cold; water-hot and cold free-cups free to use we did know so brought our own bottle of water;

you must be nude, a western (maybe russian lady) was supprised when we told her.

you don't need 100 yen to operate the locker(lots of other onsen need), you get a waistband after you pay 1500 entry fee, this waistband has a number, locate your locker, using this waistband to open your locker-mediam size, so donot bring big luggages.

another small locker near the tea area, you can use to put your valubles, like watch passport-seems free-we did not use it-but can not see charge fee written, operation only in japanese, seems simple: maybe, put your waistband near the small locker you want to use, it will open, put your things in, close the door, input a 4 digits pin.

sampoo, body wash(rinse, normally written), conditioner-free; free toothbrush.

another stone spa room, cost extra, about 800 yen??-did not try. just use your waistband to open and get a special dress for it, payment is registered on your waistband, pay when exit.

lady only lounge and another mixed lounge(for couples)-large reclined chairs to 180 degree-flat for overnight sleep, own TV set attached to the chair, individual light- like business class on plane.
large towel for covering-free, temperture is ideal, people all very quite, easy to get a good sleep, no many people neither.

lady's onsen with a red curtain(blue for man); 2 large pools inside, 2 large pools outside; one sauna inside.

vending machine for lady's undies, and some other convienient supplies, reasonable priced.
soft drinks, and bottled milk vending machines-160-300 yen.

a small store near entrance.

only complaint: not many chargers working. about 4 safe boxed chargers cost 100 for 10 min which can only charge for leasser than 10%, operation only in japanese, tried200 yen, not worth 200 yen.

when you check out, you get a exit ticket-keep this ticket while having you breakfast, afterwards, need this ticket for exit gate.

Absolutely outrageous when I would entering to the onsen.
I was treated like a criminal. Arrogant and cheeky. And that at an international airport. I'm lost for words!

Located on the 4th Floor of the New Chitose Airport on the International side is this quiet place to relax until your flight is called. For a mere 1,500 yen you can shower and take a dip into the onsen hot spring. Walk into the place, take off your shoes(bag provided), then walk to the front counter where you check in and pay. The staff will provide you with either a yukata or pajamas to wear after your bath and keys to your locker. Coats or bags you might have can be checked at the cloak room on the side. All else can be locked in your assigned locker, including your shoes. Each block of lockers is numbered with a Japanese letter (あ39) ex.-compare the letter to the block of lockers then find the locker number. After undressing take your wash cloth into the bath area with you, Sit on the small seats and wash yourself with the body wash, and you can use the shampoo and conditioner for your hair. Do not stand and shower-that is a no-no. After washing and rinsing, head to one of the baths and bring the well rinsed wash cloth with you. Place the wash cloth outside the bath or on your head before entering the bath. Do not take the towel into the bath with you. Do not dive or swim in the bath. Just quietly soak. If it is your first time in an onsen, you should only stay in the bath for about 10 minutes-also if you have health problems. The bath may make you dizzy, so don't soak too long. There are several different types of baths, also a sauna. When you are done, you can wipe up with the large towel and change into the yukata or pajama. Then you can go barefoot into the lounge area or take the stairs down to the restaurant for something to drink or something to eat. You cannot leave the onsen until you have paid and are ready to go back to the terminal waiting area. Food prices are reasonable-a zaru soba noodle set is 550 yen. To order sit at one of the tables and press the order button(looks like a computer mouse). No need to carry your cash. The waitress will scan the bar code on your locker key. You pay when you check out. When you get ready to go, go back into the locker and change into your clothes. Bring the yukata or pajama and the bag you were given, along with the bag with your shoes and you can claim your coat and bags at the cloak room. Then proceed to the check in desk with the yukata bag and check out. If you had any charges you can pay for it there. Then proceed out to the seats where you can put on your shoes. Important note: As of this date it will not be able for tattooed individuals to enter the onsen bath!

Disappointed. Arrived at airport early to have an onset pre flight - only to find out they won’t admit you if you have a tattoo. Understand this is custom for some traditional insensitive but this onsen is at an international airport and there to cater for all local and international visitors. More annoying that their website isn’t in English so it is hard to know this without turning up.

It is 2018, and you are an airport onsen. You have people from all over the world traveling through here. Japan is hosting the olympics in 2020. So why do you still refuse to allow people in who have tattoos? I have lived in Japan for three years and have never had a problem at any other onsen. It’s almost like some people know that having a tattoo doesn’t make you less of a person.

Shame on you.
